Regarding samples, Diamine also sell their inks in small 30ml plastic bottles that they regard as samples. They are rather cheap and there is a lot of variety in colors. Diamine inks are generally of good quality.

Although Goulet was one of (the?) first to offer them, they still only give you 2mL. Some others do the 3mL I suggested to Goulet in like 2011 and got blown off. My favorite place for samples is Anderson Pens. Bonus, though I don't think it's fair, is that they offer Sailor ink samples. Sailor stopped selling to Goulet because they don't have a physical store, and the Andersons do. Sailor has some really nice colors, Yama-Dori teal perhaps the most popular. If there's a pen show in your area, the Andersons probably go to it, and you can place an order for free pickup at the show. I did that for a bunch of Diamine samples for my Chesterfield vs Diamine project. Now, darn it, Chesterfield has been discontinued and the replacement is no longer a bargain... and right now looks like that's gone too, at Birmingham Pen Co. For the UK, Purepens has 2.5mL samples. If anyone is interested in getting ink samples in Germany, try Tintenprobe. Their selection is still fairly small but one can request inks via e-mail. I asked about Robert Oster and KWZ and a few days later he'd added RO inks. What's nice as well is that one can choose the sample size. They offer 2ml-6ml.

Does anyone know a European shop that sells samples? I only know Appelboompennen. See my post above. Papier & Stift also sells ink samples. However, only by brand without the option of choosing colours but rather all Kaweco colours etc.

I have a machinists tool chest I purchased from Harbor Freight. The top has a lidded try that is perfect for most normal sized ink bottles. It is too shallow for the Noodler's bottles. The chest has eight drawers and with the addition of slotted pen trays allows me to store a good portion of my pen collection as well. I couldn't attach a photo of mine but you can see the chest in the post on Fountain Pen Network. Here is the link: www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/229697-harbor-freight-wooden-tool-chest/page-1?hl=+machinists,%20+tool%20+chest,%20+storage .

I recently put my inks on a lazy susan. I'm pretty happy with that set-up.

This not exactly about storing ink but something I've found useful. I cut a 2 1/2" piece of 2"X4" and drilled a 5/8" hole in the middle about 3/4 way through. I also cut a 3/8" wide groove across the piece about 1/2" from the front. The hole is perfect for holding one of the sample bottles and is a real aid when filling a pen, since you have two hands free and the sample bottle won't tip over. Cutting a wider piece and drilling multiple holes would give you a means of storing samples. With the grove across the front you also have a place to put a dip pen so it does not roll off your desk if you use a dip pen. After sanding, staining and varnishing you have something that does not even look too bad on your desk.

It’s been a while since my last post in this thread and things look different now (although same drawer): The Herbins and Pelikans on the left are stacked on top of the Mont Blancs...I don’t think I could fit one more bottle...
