I have a couple penpals who get at minimum 2 A4 pages, front and back...depending on the conversation, sometimes it's more, but very rarely is it less. That will change, though, now that my typewriter is in working order once again.

My average is 2 A4 sheets, 2 A5 front and back, but I have a few that are 3-4 A4 sheets.

Usually, one page, sometimes two. After deciding to give handwritten letters the appearance they merit, I switched from copy paper and Staples plain envelopes to Clairefontaine Triomphe paper and envelopes that come in matching packages of 25 each. It also stems from on the job training as a Navy officer writing responses to Congressional inquiries for the Commanding Officer. (Language warning for video). My mentor taught me that most Navy Captains, especially those in Washington DC, expect one page max. Old habits die hard.
