My letters vary but tend towards lengthy. I write as though I'm in a conversation and so I do rabbit on a bit I'm afraid. I like to make sure I respond specifically to all the info, questions and subjects covered in my pen pals's letter to me, adding my own news, info, thoughts and ideas as I go. Some of my loveliest pen pals write the most wonderful letters and I try my best to show my appreciation for their written gift, which a good letter definitely is. I try to be methodical and organised but usually end up rambling a bit, for which I apologise to my long-suffering pen pals. Apologies not called for; your lettes are always a treat.

Rarely less than 4 A4 pages (2 front and back). A5 sized pages are terrible for me and my fatty mcfatster nibs and letters would be a dozen pages. I never worry about length, all depends on the pen pal. I have one who clearly chooses a card and writes in it and sometimes mid thought she reaches the end of the card and just signs her name. She will never add sheets to the notecard, it is kind of hilarious. But even with that one it is 2-3 A4 pages in return. I keep hoping she'll have an "AHA!" moment. It's been years. No dice, but she's a sweetie.

It really depends on the topic of conversation. I think my longest yet is 8 pages (US Letter size). Typically I'm between 3-4 pages though.

Poll is a bit confusing as by book and journal standards one "leaf" is two pages. From the discussion here, it looks like everyone is using leaf and page for the same thing.
Yegads, if I cover both sides of a near-A4 page I call it a two page letter, and a long one. Then again, I'm a fine nib fanatic and get about 5-6 lines per vertical inch and 12-13 characters per horizontal inch. So almost 6000 per side of a A4 with 1/4" margins, which would be about 1000 standard 5-letter words per side of each leaf.
Which, is probably why I'm happy writing a 5x7 card at about 300 words to most InCoWriMo people and maybe that plus both sides of an A5 for a penpal letter (a little more than 1000 words, or 1 side of an A4). Therefore, I can't imagine writing both sides of two A4 sheets. I'm going to guess it's handwriting size.

Between 1 and 4 pages depending on person topic and how often we correspond.
(A page is side of a sheet not necessarily number of paper sheets)

I've just received a letter on 12 sides of A4. I will probably have enough stuff to say to almost match that in length!

As a teacher in regard to handwritten work I constantly have to point out that the length of an essay is determined by the number of words. It is perfectly possible for one writer's average word count on lined A4 to be double, or in extreme cases more than double somebody else's. With unlined the variation can obviously be greater. Probably most of us bear that in mind when wishing to match our letters to those received. Kind regards, Timothy

The skill of concise, clear and succinct writing is one I much admire. Many, many moons ago, in the dim & distant past, when I was still at school, in our English Language classes we had specific lessons teaching us how to " Précis"; that is, learning the art of crystallising a lengthy piece of text by identifying the key salient points and transcribing the original prose into a much more abbreviated version, without losing the meaning. I practised hard during my time at school, and through diligence & much effort, eventually became quite adept at doing so. Over the long years since then I have gradually lost the art of Précis, and my writing has become protracted, prolonged and, I'm sure, often tortuous & tedious, and consequently my letters have likewise gradually become more extended and prone to long-windedness. In my opinion this is not a good thing. Or, to Précis, I wish I wrote shorter letters.

I write primarily on about A4 size paper. Letters are at least 2 sheets of paper, both sides. Depending on nib it could be more pages. I wish i could say that I was succinct, but I won't even pretend to be close.

For me on average it is four pages, two both sides. I have one pen friend that writes eight to ten pages and I do the same in reply. It depends on who I'm writing to and how much I have to say.
