I'm a computer guy and I work from home. As such, I have six fountain pens inked up at the moment. Three with italic nibs are for correspondence and journaling, one with a broad nib is for birthday cards, one has black ink and is dedicated to a letter registry, and one is an every-day-carry (EDC) pen with a fine nib and blue ink in case I need to do something "official" while out and about. I just lay them horizontally on my desk, and grab one as needed. I would like to get some kind of organizer to hold them upright. I was thinking of something like this from Levenger, but they are kind of pricey at $60. What do y'all use to hold your pens at your desk?

I have been looking for more pen holders. I have 2 desk tidies, one wire mess holder, a plastic beaker, a porcelain mug on the mantelpiece... full of various pens, rulers, ink cartridges, bits and bobs, but I haven't got anything as such on my writing desk. I do keep my pens currently in a Angry Birds Space pen(cil) case!

I have 2 pen holders for most of the stuff needed at my desk but my fountain pens are always kept separately on a microfibre cloth so they don't get scratched or if they're not in use I have a pen folder for them.

I've got that letter-opener, chojo! My mum and dad gave one to me for my birthday :-) To hold my inked pens I use a set of 3 Muji clear acrylic drawers, with liners placed in the bottom. The drawers are available to order online & in the UK cost £17.95. I should think you can get them in the US too. They are also available in other sizes.
(Apols for the light reflection on the top of the drawers in the photo).

They're really nice aren't they, mine was a christmas present from my mum. My only gripe with them is that as there's no actual blade side to them, they have a tendency to rip rather than cut on thicker papers. Other than that I love it. Those trays are pretty cool too!

I use a Dudek cube, forget the name but it is 9 pens and holder for a notebook. Not a huge footprint, love it.

Similar to Migo but with Officeworks acrylic 4-drawer thingo. Lined with bubblewrap. The Pelikans live in a grumpy Owl pencil case. I really must check our new Muji shop for their storage options but have only made it to the stationery display so far.

The drawer in Migo's pic had a preformed liner purchased in sheets from the U.S. Yesterday we took delivery of a new 3-drawer Muji unit to store our combined inked roster. After looking at the price of buying and shipping some more insert sheeting, we decided to make our own. Here's a few pics to show how we did it and the result. We are tickled pink ... Here's the finished 3-draw set ... Feel free to post or PM for any more info if you want some help to repeat this process.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the price comparison against buying them? If I had Blue Peter badge I'd send it to you! (Even though I don't think you used a cornflakes box did you?)

I honestly took an oatmeal container, cut it down to size, vacuumed the remaining oatmeal out, and then glued fabric on. You can also use scrap booking paper too.

(Even though I don't think you used a cornflakes box did you?) Migo wants a gold Blue Peter Badge, please. Roughly, if we bought pre-formed inserts from the U.S. it would have cost us about £5 per drawer. Opposed to that we spent £1 on dowel, £1 on felt, allow say 20p for double sided tape, and nothing for the board as you could use any scrap cardboard, card or ply for that. So our cost was less than half. But we think what we've done is actually better than the pre-formed inserts as it certainly looks better and is softer on the pens.
