Barbara Lemke Rohrer posted a link to an article over on the Facebook page about a postcard that took 26 years to complete its trip from Hong Kong to Springfield, Illinois. There was a small discussion that followed in which I asked "This raises the question of whether any of the regular letter writers on here have ever received delayed mail?" I then posted about my own experience with a bit of delayed mail, "I have but it wasn't a personal letter but rather a debit card which took 3 months to show up. It arrived a day before the replacement card they sent me did and caused all kinds of confusion when I tried to activate the old, supposedly, lost card." Yesterday my old record of delayed mail was broken and by a wide margin when a postcard I'd mailed to Salt Lake City, Utah was returned to me. I couldn't remember sending this pen pal anything recently so I asked my wife, I was at work, if the postmark was readable and she sent me a picture of the cancellation. Below is a scan of the postcard in question with all pertinent pen pal info blurred out. I don't know why I bothered as apparently the address is now no longer valid.

I then posted about my own experience with a bit of delayed mail, "I have but it wasn't a personal letter but rather a debit card which took 3 months to show up. I had a problem with a credit card that never showed up. Some services "helpfully" link to credit card companies for info changes. So... Netflix kept saying my card was invalid because they kept automatically switching to the card I never got. Since I never knew there was a card in the mail, and the one I had was still valid, it was rather confusing.

Funny how those "helpful" little ideas like your credit card company sending out the 411 to every company you've ever done business with in the past that you have a new card being mailed to you can cause so many problems. Then again since you never got the new card it was a lot like my debit card that was set to expire in 5 days and when I contacted the bank they told me it's going to be 10-14 business days before they can get me a new card as none of that stuff is handled in house. Funny too that they suddenly remember they have a rush option on cards when you tell them to please liquidate all the cash in your checking account as you need access to your money even when the bank is closed and can't cash a check for you. The replacement card made it the day after the old card expired and the "lost" card made it on the last day my old card was still valid although it did me no good.

I'm still waiting on a postcard that was sent to me, from New England, in 2013. That's six years ago, but maybe there's hope that it will turn up yet?

Perhaps. I would normally say that something like a postcard was a disposable item in the eyes of the USPS but they went to great lengths to see that this one got back to me. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night *nor a 27 month delay* stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.

Never give up hope but again don't start holding your breath right now either. Some mail takes a little longer to arrive than others. Letter arrives 75 years later
