First Place: Its a Fine Medium Pilot Custom Heritage 92 for me. Fits the hand nice, not heavy, piston filler, and the FM nib can be somewhat expressionistic, just a touch of flex. Its also transparent orange which is a bit unusual.
Second place: Sheaffer Imperial II Deluxe - Fine Nib. It just writes like a dream. I fill this one up with Scabiosa and go to town. Not a big capacity and a bear to clean but the nib is wonderful, even if its a nail. Its older brother, the Sentinel is in the shop and I hope it comes back to daddy soon.
Third place is a frankenpen - Nemosine Singularity with a Goulet 1.1 stub nib. Mostly for letter writing - 1.1 nib is too thick for novel writing and I'd blow through ink on that. I'll use a ballpoint/rollerball on an envelope if I don't have a permanent ink or I'm just being lazy and don't want to schlep to get a pen.
Hon. Mention: Lamy Safari - Fine Nib. Old reliable.

I'm a rolling ball type of gal. It's a good mix of the nice flow of ink from a fountain pen and the versatility of a ballpoint.

It's a great hobby..."

I aspire to be a fountain pen user, but my handwriing is too loopy for it to look nice. My current pen of choice is the gellyroll... the ink is nice and the pen feels comfortable for long letters. I also appreicate the funky colors. Plus, as a bonus... it reminds me of my teenage years. I think I used them then too! My handwriting, especially cursive is atrocious. However when I write with a stub nib on a fountain pen its like someone else is writing. You might find a cheapie stub like a Nemosine Singularity (I'm sure there are some other inexpensive stubs out there) and give it a try.

Happy to see there are so many fountain pen lovers here! And so many who have moms that don't understand...
My mother used to nag about how schools still want kids to learn to write with a fountain pen instead of a ballpoint, which she finds way more practical and thus better. Well, as a kid I used everything that could write and as I'm a child of the digital age (I'm 27), I soon typed as fast as I could think so I switched to that.
But I'm back. All my letters and almost all my journal entries are written with a fountain pen. I've got 2 (low priced I guess) Parker pens, which I don't really like. Then I discovered... Lamy! I love my Safari and Al-star models with all nibs possible. They write smoothly and I like their simple, but modern design.
For work & quick scribbles, I've got the Lamy Al-star rollerball and the Midori bullet ballpoint.
And I'm impatiently waiting for my order to arrive: a Fisher Space bullet ballpoint which should write upside down and in any temperature & the Lamy Joy for calligraphy.

My (current) top would be a Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with a falcon nib. I like Pilot pens a lot, and this one in particular seems to be made of magic and unicorns. I only recently got it, too, so that probably accounts for some of the preferential treatment it's getting.
Second is my demonstrator Prera (F nib), which follows me around wherever I go.
Third is a Parker Urban, which looks amazing, but has a tendency to get ink caught in the section, only to slowly let it out while you're writing. Apparently this is a design flaw with the particular series of Urban I have, lots of people complain about this. Nib is pretty good, though.
Oh, and I don't think my mother doesn't understand as such, she seems slightly impressed more than anything. I think her idea of fountain pen use is mostly based on nightmarish poorly maintained school pens in the 60s. Something about ink everywhere and nibs cutting the paper.

When you can I recommend a Pilot Plumix. It is a stub but sharp, make great lines and very inexpensive

Great for work and I just got one with a stub nib, very nice.

Using my Parson's Essential a lot nowadays. With my newest favourite ink (I'm still pretty new to bottled ink too) Diamine Bilberry, it's so enjoyable.
At work (teacher) I couldn't resist and switched from ballpoint & rollerball to fountain pen too: a lovely grey Kaweco Sport with Diamine orange cartridges. Great size to keep in my pocket all day and nice vibrant color from the ink!

I got a Pilot Kakuno for Christmas, but at the Philly Pen Show this past weekend, I picked up a Franklin Christoph M66 Stabilis in Antique Glass finish.

I received a little Christmas bonus at work that went to this oblique dip pen.
