After my Black Friday score of four Christmas themed stationery sets at my local le magasin d'aubaines, I decided to go back to look for more. And I found two more sets, one by Hallmark (new in the box) and one off-brand with a few sheets having been used. Again, both were on sale for half of the marked and already low thrift store price. That little store is becoming my go-to supplier for 'vintage' stationery and postcards! And now, it's time to do some writing....

On a whim, I stopped at my local thrift store today. I found four new stationery sets for 50¢ each! There are two Hallmark "Lots of Letters" sets, one white and one ecru, one set by American Greetings, and one set by Carlton Cards. The two Hallmark sets have 50 sheets of paper each, and the other two sets have 36 and 40 sheets of paper each, respectively, way more than is usual for such sets. I also found a new package of Hallmark decorated writing paper, for $1. I'm very happy....

I'm a bit envious I have never ever seen lettersets in Finnish thrift stores! Nowadays it's pretty hard to find them in any store whatsoever, and if you do, they're pricey.

I've had some luck at thrift stores. But, only maybe 10% of the time. When I do find nice paper or letter-sets, it's a rare treat! I've had better luck at estate sales, but with the pandemic, I haven't been going to those... I find that the estate sale industry in my area is struggling with how to implement PPE and social-distancing. The thrift stores are large open areas with only a few customers browsing. Estate sales are frequently lots of people (sometimes as many as 50) jammed into one residence.
Fortunately, I've got a pretty good supply laid in. Hopefully enough to make it to better times!

In the past, I have searched for letter sets at the local thrift stores... have found plenty of card sets, but not letter sets. Not yet, anyway. My latest obsession is purchasing printable stationary from etsy. I buy a jpg, or a pdf, and can use it 100s of times, if I so desire I have "HP Insta Ink" program, so I pay about $10 a month in order to print 300 pages... doesn't matter if they are full colour, black and white etc...

Stationery of all kinds is hard to find here in Swedish thrift stores, however it is easy to find postcards and greeting cards, so I always stack up on those when I happen to pass by a thrift (latest on Tuesday - I had to bribe my kids with ice cream to get some time to myself). I focus on local postcards to send to penpals and greeting cards. And I stay clear of the ones that have been written and sent, don't know why but it feels like an invasion of privacy.
