I was just wondering if any of you make copies of your letters and if so do you have a system? As my brain is slowly turning to mush I can't seem to recall anything I've written these days so I'm going to have to do something to help me. I've tried taking photos of my letters but now I only remember to do that after I've put it in the envelope. Perhaps I'll try typing them out first, at least then I have a hard copy.

I scan all my letters and save them in Evernote. Before they get folded and stuffed in an envelope, they are fed through a document scanner.

I had thought about scanning, but I no longer have a scanner. One recent letter got photographed because I was talking about project ideas so I thought I'd better keep track of them. I had scanned in (on another scanner) some letters I received as a teenager!

I keep a letter notebook, with the date of letters received and replied to. I was quite poorly a while back and it affected my memory, so I got in the habit of also writing a few brief bulletpoints about the subjects covered, as an aide memoir. Now my memory has improved but I still do brief notes; it's both useful and an excuse to use my pens and inks more :-)

When I first started I wrote all my letters first in a letter journal and then "fair copied" them for mailing. I soon gave that up. Then I kept a log, entering all the letters going out and coming in, without really commenting on content, so that seemed a waste of time and I gave up. Now I rely on my memory and context. Sometimes that works, sometimes its a stretch. I don't have a scanner and I'm sure I couldn't deal with that level of organization.

I don't but I should. But even that wouldn't help when I noticed I'd written about something I'd already talked about earlier in the same letter again !
I do however try and keep a track of incomings and outgoings.

Usually I dont. earlier this year i took pictures of mine with my ipad before sending them but fp ink didnt always show up well and i have never had cause to re-read them. Hopefully when you respond/read a letter there will be a reference to help both parties remember what youre talking about. During the first year of Incowrimo at the end of each entry for the outgoing lettes i jotted down what i mentioned. that alone took up a lot of space (not to mention time) so i no longer do that. However if I was going to do that, i wouldnt put it on a correspondence journal, i probably would have a page (or several) per person and keep everything everything ive written about there that way one just need took in one place per person.
I wouldnt worry about repeating yourself too much, as I am sure we may do that verbally from time to time (or is that only me?).

Some good ideas there thanks guys, I need to figure some thing out not only because I can't remember anything but as my life is bone numbingly boring I've taken to including some "embellishments" to some of my letters, one or two of which have proved to be humorous or so I'm lead to believe. I just wish I could remember what I said! I've already been asked what I want for christmas by some of my family but a personal assistant is, apparently, a step too far.

Your letters are *very* funny! :-) I could photocopy the latest ones and send back to you if you like? Someone else did that for me once and it was very helpful. N.B. I did say I'd take the job as your PA, but you declined to pay my requested £72k salary, for a 12 hour week. Meanie ;-)

As for the job if you can convince my family to pay you that much I'd be happy to work with you... but I'm not paying you for tea breaks!

I do not keep track except what may stay in my head. I do appreciate my pals that work my words in to explain their reply. I try to also but probably am not that great about it. I just do not have time to rewrite and usually not for a llog, I gave that a try for a while. Heck I sometimes forget to log the pen/ink combos when I start using another pen. Done that alot lately.
