Is it spring yet? I don't know but it is February. This month is popular for the daily letter writing craze that is either LetterMo (on postal days), InCoWriMo or InCoWriMo-2017. I like the idea as it can bring new people to the habit of writing letters, saving the mail service and maybe using real stamps. I still wonder what other ways we can use to promote snailmail to people. I created a video at the end of January, uploading it to Instagram, but one minute is not a very long time. My original attempt was 2 minutes long so I edited a lot out of it. Maybe I should have a youtube channel or somewhere else (suggestions & advice welcome). I have an idea of the themes I would like to cover. I will use still photographs and add audio. I'm not sure how often I will be doing videos; I don't want to run out of ideas and themes to cover.
I will need help finding some of the bigger charities around the world accepting stamps as donations (and then they can sell on to dealers and the philatelic world). The UK has many charities doing this - they may research into cancer, other illnesses, provide nurses, hospices, children's hospitals, support services, humanitarian causes but I would like to find equivalents around the world.
After the February madness, I was thinking of hosting a snailmail scavenger hunt/i-spy for March. I know not everyone uses Instagram, but I would like to host it over there - ideal for sharing photos of the objects, and it may also bring in new people. We can have threads here too. I was thinking of a series of weekly hunts with different snailmail things on the list. No prizes. So, if anyone has ideas for this, you know how to reach me!
I am open to ideas to how to improve this forum.
Added - while it is nice to share pictures of incoming/outgoing mail, please please obscure the other person's address - show your own address at your own risk, but please do not share that of others without their permission.
Added - February 28th - first scavenger hunt now up on Instagram (@aworldofsnailmail) and also on the forum.
