Suddenly, I find myself nearly in the middle of December, after the start of winter and I haven't written a site update. In truth, I have been getting through my letters, the ones I need to reply to and enclose festive cards so I want those to arrive before the 25th. The last recommended posting date from UK to the US for airmail post is 15th December, although with some parts of the US having snow, I would think there would be some delays State-side.
I had hoped to bring news of Royal Mail's 2017 stamp calendar but the full programme hasn't been released. Apparently, publication will be on the 1st January in the UK newspapers. I had also intended to find the details of the stamp calendars from countries we have members.
I participated in the Letter Writers Alliance Virtual Social Holiday edition. I saw last year's too. The interaction was across several platforms but not everyone participated across all the media. I was wondering whether we should have a chat social event on this forum in a board I can open up for guests to converse too. I did a test message as Guest 123 and jumped through verification hoops to prove I was human. I know it is ironic to want to communicate electronically about analogue / snailmail communications. The thought going through my head for this is to have a 24-48hr chat session you can come and go as you please, and discuss various postal/letter writing issues. How about one in February, during InCoWriMo? I am not comfortable myself doing a video podcast (the webcam lens could shatter, plus I do not have a side-kick), but also I haven't discounted the idea of an audio podcast.
February is not that far away and there are 2 postal projects. One is InCoWriMo, led by bruce for 2017, and the other is LetterMo to look forward to. For those unfamiliar with them, it is a binge letterwriting session, one letter a day for the month. InCoWriMo requires the letters to be handwritten, whereas LetterMo allows typewritten and also gives points for creativity, Jane Austen style letters, posting from different post boxes, etc..
Five Questions is on a break but will be back in January so you'd better get your thinking caps on. Sometimes, it is inspiration for your current correspondents to have something else to respond to as well as your letter.
I am open to ideas to how to improve this forum and how to spread the word..
Season's greetings to you all, and hope 2017 brings more happiness.
