I am running out of cartridges that I use as a teacher and thought I could get some tips from you. My Kaweco (EF nib) has already known Diamine orange, Diamine Claret and Pelikan green. I'm looking for: - standard international short - vivid, "happy" color - easy to read (no super-light colors) - no blues or reds - normal dry time Any brands/colors that come to mind? It's for kids aged 8-10 so you can go pretty wild on the "fun" level

About 30 years ago, I went though a phase of using a mixed bag of standard cartridges from WHSmith. There was a brown, cyan, magenta, green. Not seen for a while.
You already know about Diamine. They have a fantastic range of colours, mostly bottled so perhaps you could get a converter. They only have a limited range of cartridges.
As for fun... Diamine have a range of bottled inks with glittery bits.
J. Herbin do a range of ink cartridges (as well as bottled ink).

Thanks for the reply. Diamine does have great colors, but not so many in cartridges and I won't be fiddling around with bottles and converters while managing 24 kids. That's why I wondered if someone knows some fun colors in cartridges

Kaweco has most of their colors in cartridges, and some of them are quite bright and nice.

J Herbin cartridges are packaged so nicely, but I don't really think of their colors as vibrant. I do like Pelikan green and purple. I really like their turquoise, but that is a blue...

I just got sent a packet of Gullor carts....they look like nice bright colors, allegedly standard international. 'Allegedly' because I had fifteen pens inked and haven't tested these yet.

Available in boxes of 12 cartridges from La Couronne du Comte. www.lacouronneducomte.nl/webstore/main/private-reserve-cartridges-colours-cartridges-p-2034.html

Actually Diamine has quite a few cartridge colors (as seen here), and another option is Seitz-Kreuznach.

I'm quoting myself, haha! Update: my Jinhao test pens arrived. I could not cram the Gullor carts into any one of them, and Jinhao does take standard international carts. At this point I don't know WHAT pens these Gullors would fit, but they sure won't fit a Kaweco.

I don't know what "Gullor" is supposed to mean, if it's an additional manufacturer or what, but I have seen it on ebay listings in front of various Chinese pen brands, like Jinhao and Duke. The listing will say like "Gullor fountain pen Duke red pattern" or such. So presumably they ought to fit some Chinese variety of pen?

I'm using Waterman Harmonious Green cartridges in a Kaweco Al Sport and it's a pretty good one, readable but fun... I'm more of a dark color person in general but I like this one.

They had to be punctured with an awl, then rammed in to my Jinhao 599. In reading the Amazon reviews, I found it's a common problem.

How odd. Well, I guess now we all know to stay away from those!

There is another post about Kaweco pens that I had replied to. My suggestion was to rinse out a cartridge with a syringe and water after it was emptied and use the syringe and any bottled ink you have to refill the cartridge. I have a Pilot VP that I have been doing that with. Then if you have your favorite bottled inks that don't come in cartridges you just fill with your own color.
