April is here. Spring arriving in the northern hemisphere heralds some better weather, perhaps, and the ability to write letters outdoors enjoying the fresh air. The USPS started National Card and Letter Writing Month in April last year, although there is nothing new (as I write) on their news site this year. However, there is another campaign for April called Write On to "... promote joy, creativity, expression, and connection through hand-written correspondence." We here on A World of Snail Mail all appreciate nice letters, and it is great to be able to share our enthusiasm. I have been playing with Photoshop to see if I can create some 6x4 inch pictures and bookmarks 3-to-that size for printing to encourage people to (re)discover the joys of snailmail. So far, the text I've come up with asks to look at some #, e.g. #incomingmail, on Instagram or search online in general for penpals, without directly mentioning A World of Snail Mail.
We have quite a few German members and with the loss of Letternet from Deutsche Post, and I don't know currently of any other German language forum for penpalling (although there are language exchange sites). Postcrossing has a German section on the forum. So, this month, I hope to finish setting up a section to use German in. I could look to dict.cc for board titles in German, but I could pick the wrong translations (and my German is fast alles vergessen). So, if some of the German-speaking members could send me a private message (or even reply to this thread) with suggestions for the board titles - Introductions, snail mail discussions, seeking penpals, 5 Questions 5 Letters (also, would appreciate translation of the guidelines for it), and lounge/chat...
There hasn't been much interest in best 5 Questions... but I do have some nominations. So, I think for the moment, could be either a twice yearly, or just an annual thing. I will get the polls up soon.
A big welcome to all the new members. Communication is an important part of this forum, whether it is in the discussions or the other sections. Please introduce yourself, if you haven't already, and also welcome at least some of the other members.
