I have just finished my third letter of the evening to someone I met through Lettermo (A Month of Letters Challenge) and is essentially the same thing as InCoWriMo (International Correspondence Writing Month). Both projects take place in February too. I came across April's National Card and Letter Writing Month too late. In this letter, I mentioned a couple of ideas for projects although one seems more viable and it is this I'd like to suggest here for discussion.
Some people find writing the first letter to a complete stranger difficult. What do you write? Some write as if they are applying for the job position of penpal, a cv - My name is Blah and I live in Thingyville and I do this, and that, and like chocolate and swimming... Their future letters would not be in the same style. So, the idea I have is to break the ice. The idea I have is 5 Questions (can settle on a title later, how about 5 Questions Correspondence Month/Challenge), where if you want people to write to you, you provide your address (or ask for a private message..) plus ask 5 questions in your thread post. The questions could be silly (e.g. are you a biscuit dunker?) to more serious (e.g. how long have you been a snail mailer?). If people then snailmail replies and would like continuing correspondence, they could also include 5 questions (try to make these different from ones asked in the thread). Also, aim to reply to 5 different people for the challenge. I would suggest October or November for this challenge.
So, what do you think?

I think it sounds like a great way to start things off, though, again I'm fairly saturated with pen pals. Still, I'd give it a try.

This could be an interesting venture, I'd probably sign up if I only need to do five (also somewhat swamped). Early October might be good so as to avoid the holiday crunch.

Second draft at the wording... I would welcome any suggestions/edits. I'd like to open up a board (visible only to those logged in) for it in mid-September.
Welcome to Five Letters, Five Questions Month. This challenge is to take place in October.
Have you ever wanted to write to someone but found it difficult to know what to write in your first letter? Well, this project could be for you. People should leave their address in a thread plus 5 questions they would like answered (these can be trivial - (e.g. are you a biscuit dunker? or something more serious - e.g. how long have you been a snail mailer?). Then, you can pick (at least) 5 people to write to and answer their questions, and maybe write a little bit more in your letter with 5 questions of your own (different from the ones you put in the thread, if you did so). It would be nice if letters could be replied to, or at least acknowledged.

I'll do it. I might even, gasp, break my self-imposed rule of not writing to people of the male persuasion! See what you've done Mia! :-)

Currently in the middle of a letter... and this project has been mentioned. However, I think Five Questions, Five Letters would be better than Five Letters, Five Questions!

Just a thought. How about having this as a monthly thing? Could then have a thread for each month, lock it to new posts at the end of the month, and then move to archive a few months later?

Thats cool, we could even incorporate those into our other letters (esp when you cannot think of what to write, this usually happens with me)
