When a fellow birder in the USA replied to my letter, this is the envelope he sent. Sadly, Canada Post has nothing to compare. Rod envelope.pdf (133.16 KB)

OK, maybe I'm being too hard on Canada Post, and maybe it's comes down to my inability to find their little philatelic gems. But some of the very nice stamps are "permanent" meaning they are dedicated to domestic mail, and don't carry a dollar value. The local post office has a very limited selection at the best of times. I can order stamps on line from Canada Post, which I did for a while to get some nice issues, but then I pay an extra 13% VAT on top of the sticker price. If I take 3 or more international letters at a time to the post office, they waive the extra 13% - but I'm stung by the very limited selection. Oh woe, alas and alack, it's all so depressing.

Vanessa I know exactly what you mean about misery-guts post office staff In my last job (a newsagent which had a small post office at the back) the three women there (two twin sisters and a daughter)knew I wrote letters and did Postcrossing but still huffed and puffed when I asked for the new 'decorative' stamps as opposed to the normal everyday ones. Same with the woman who works in Amble post office....jeez she IS a miserable boot I'm now in another small shop with a post office counter at the back and never have any problems. The only time I don't use the decorative stamps now for penpal letters is when they run out
