I'm making my own shimmer inks by adding fine mica powder to fountain pen inks. These seem to work like the commercial shimmer inks sold by Herbin and Diamine but without the expense. They also have the same fussiness as the commercial brands. I think they work best in wetter writing pens. Try at your own risk but I've been using these inks for a few months now.

I do this too and have gotten some great results. but yes, definitely put these in pens you can clean out easily! Not expensive vintage pens, or pens with temperamental pistons. I put mine in TWSBIs and some c/c pens, like a waterman Laureat and a Pelikan silvexa. They work much better if they are wetter nibs.
What base colour is the green in your picture above? It's a lovely shade!

Looks spectacular! Need to look up what mica powder is (English is not my mother tongue)... Any craft store in the U.S. carries it... and you can get it online of course. This is just one brand: www.jacquardproducts.com/pearl-ex-pigments.html

I wondered, too, and did some research on Google. But I only found mica powder in context with cosmetics.
Just did another search... There seems to be brand called Finnabair the products of which are sold in Europe (Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with that company and don't know if the product is good.)

The cosmetic one I wouldn't dare to try, but I might ask my local craft store about it.

Interesting! These are really pretty. Does the shimmer stay in place once the ink dries?

My attempts have only rubbed off if I seriously over-shimmered the ink. If you hit the perfect recipe, then it stays surprisingly well once the ink dries.

Those are awesome! If I know me, I would do it, and end up with shimmer all over the place.

Nice experiment. I would not be afraid if it were converter fill only pens.

I make my own shimmer paint as well but not to put in pens, I spray them onto envelopes or stationary to make a different background
