One part of exchanging letters that isn't often mentioned is what comes out of the envelope along with the letter or something sent in a package. I have received some beautiful calligraphy, stickers, postcards, and tea bags. I got to wondering what some of the rest of you might have received?
Today a package arrived from a pen pal with something special. My pen pal is a paleobotanist. He is just retired and sorting out some of the things he has accumulated. One of his endeavors was identifying the species of petrified wood. In the box were five tumbled samples of some of the petrified wood he had collected. The petrified wood was 16 million years old and were identified as similar to the black walnut, conifer of the redwood/bald cypress type, possibly ash, sycamore, and root of bald cypress. He would slice the specimens, polished them, and look at the cell structure under a microscope to identify them. All of the pieces I received were rectangular pieces, tumbled, and absolutely beautiful. ,

How interesting penguy. I’ve received many things in envelopes, confetti, stickers, train timetables of the tube in UK, tea bags because everyone knows I love tea, Not as special and unique as penguy

Someone sent me a jigsaw puzzle last week, of course the authorities opened it up to see what was so bulky. I hope all pieces are still there so I can put the puzzle together, love inserts like this

There's a "confessions" social media account where people submit via a google form, anonymously... one was about someone who, on visits to his grandfather, would eat jigsaw puzzle pieces. The grandfather didn't know and complained to the manufacturer about the missing pieces!
