Oh great! More mental arithmetic for non-global-forever stamp usage!

Exactly! Between the frequent price changes, slow letter writing, and percentage of international letters, I pretty much just have to google the prices for all 4 stamps (int, 2nd oz, postcard, regular) and do the math every time. I could update a post-it note stuck on the stamp sheets. Now add to the mix the 40c (why?) fox stamps. If I was more into spreadsheets, maybe there's a way to automate it. Would require some scripting to sort the combos by how close they come.
Here's my quickie calculations. Value of some combinations vs the international rate. Two 1st plus one 2nd oz is the winner. Or 1st+2nd+postcard and a 10c pears stamp. Isn't this fun... ugh.
Values: intl 150 1st class 66 square 106 postcard 51 2nd oz 24
Combo Difference vs international 1st+p+p 168 18 1st +p +2nd 141 -9 1st+1st+p 183 33 1st+1st+2nd 156 6 1st+sq 172 22 sq+p 157 7 1st+p+40 157 7

The good news for international one-ounce letters is that $1 + 40-cent fox + 10-cent pear will do the trick neatly.
The bad news is that you need to use the $1 stamps, which are huge and (only my opinion) not that great looking.

You're right. I didn't put much time into that table.
But, also, with a million 1st class stamp designs and, like, maybe 3 postcard... I don't think I'd like to give up the aesthetic options.
There are also two 90c designs, and the (I love SF, so) Ursula K Le Guin $1.14, if you wanna try the math on those. Ursula and a fox, $1.54

Two postcard and two additional-ounce stamps will total $1.50, but they aren't exactly stamps I would enjoy using.

Another one I can think of is $1 (statue of freedom) + p = 151 I don’t buy patriotic stamps often but this one I like. BTW I was not aware of the postage increase of this month!
