For that past few months there are more days without any mail delivered, not even bills. Sometimes it is several time in the same week. In the past there was perhaps one or two days a year without any mail, but a real rarity. I've heard it might be the problem with a Postmaster General that has a conflict of interest with ties to UPS or FEDEX, don't remember which. I remember just before the last election he was getting rid of sorting machines which did not seem reasonable.
It sounds like England is having problems as well. Are there any other countries with problems with postal service?
If for some reason the postal service ceased to exist are there any alternatives for both in-country and international letter delivery?

If for some reason the postal service ceased to exist are there any alternatives for both in-country and international letter delivery? Morale at the Postal Service has plummeted since current Postmaster General Louis DeJoy took over. Some workers defied him. Good for them! Because so many people have quit or retired early, there aren't enough mail carriers to cover all of the routes. Nor are there are enough carriers to cover / substitute for carriers who are out on vacation or on sick leave. So some carriers are expected to work their own route plus someone else's route. Since there aren't enough people to do that, there is no mail delivery some days. There aren't enough clerks / sales associates to fully staff the counter at many Post Offices. Last year Congress passed the Postal Service Reform Act requiring retired postal employees to enroll in Medicare when eligible and dropping the previous mandate that forced the Postal Service to cover its health care costs years in advance. That bipartisan bill demonstrates Congress' belief in and support of the Postal Service. The Post Office will continue to exist.

In the UK, the postal service and the post office are different entities, though once upon a time they were all one with a telephone company. Royal Mail are responsible for delivering letters, 6 days a week, all over the UK for set prices, whether posted in Land's End or up in the Shetland Islands.. The Post Office sells stamps issued by Royal Mail (but other shops sell Royal Mail stamps as well), but not all of the branches will sell the special issue stamps. The Post Office had its own issues... the computer system they used had bugs, errors, defects... perhaps the system made 1 + 1 = 3 occasionally which meant there were differences between the money in the till, and what the computer said should be there. Post office workers, postmasters... were prosecuted and jailed, told their case was isolated.... www.postofficescandal.uk/
