So normally, I’m a big letter writer in summertime. I love taking a little time each day to go outside, sit under my favorite tree and write a little bit each day. Sometimes it’s a half hour, or if I’m lucky, an hour. But I really love taking the time to enjoy both being outside and writing to my pen friends. So, on average, I write a letter every day, or one letter every 2 days. I write a lot, and I love it!
But this past month, life has been so crazy busy (with a mix of really fun stuff, big projects, and a few unexpected catastrophes), that I’ve only written 3 letters (one of them very short) this entire month! And when I do have a little free time, Jeff and I keep doing fun summer things - like paddle boarding on the lake, mountain biking, hiking, or kayaking. Suddenly, summer is almost over! Where did the time go?
(meanwhile, I think nearly all my penpals have written this summer, and my reply pile is overflowing - apologies to everyone waiting on a letter from me, I promise I’ll start writing some replies soon!)
So my question is: which type of Summer Writer are you? Prolific: writing much more than usual? Or Postponed: delaying your replies until the summer is over (and kids are back in school?). Are your reasons the same as mine?
I guess there might be a 3rd category too, Unchanged: the summer season doesn’t affect your writing habits at all. I think I’m both Prolific/Postponed, as I was a pretty Prolific writer in June and July, but I was definitely a Postponer in August.
So which one are you?

I reckon it depends on what's happening in life! I didn't write any letters at all last summer because my husband was ill, so I visited him at the hospital everyday and had no energy for writing letters. This year, that's different, and I write more. I have no kids so the 'back to school' aspect doesn't apply to me.

Are your reasons the same as mine? Nope! Jeff has never invited me to go cycling, kayaking etc!

letter writing is perhaps a bit more concentrated in the Winter...too cold to do much outside. I do my best at letter writing in Summer but there are too many things that need doing outside so my inbox grows and the outbox slows!

There seems to be things to do in the summer... Walking, gardening, enjoying the outdoors & the weather. Although I do try to take my letters out with me. Writing outside the home, I want to show letter writing is still alive.
The better weather may mean that letters can catch an earlier collection from the mailbox, especially if it is a clear/dry night and I can post the letters in a postbox with an early collection. If damp, well, there have been issues with slugs & snails somewhat eating post.

I think my writing is unchanged for the most part - Mine is more dependent on my workload, which now that I'm in a different area, is a LOT less than what I was doing before. Still kind of seasonal - based more on school budgetary year-end. I tend to save my letter-writing for the weekends, save the occasional letter I write when work is slow.

“ really fun stuff, big projects, and a few unexpected catastrophes” My August has been similar to that! I did get decent number of letters out (6?) but in slower pace. I will delay the replies knowing that the summer is almost over, and I will be able to catch up soon

Usually I write more letters when on holiday, but this summer I didn't. I'm not sure what my excuse is. I just felt like doing other things.

For me it depends on the other life circumstances. I do usually have more going on in the summer and fun things to do outside, but often I still manage to write just as many letters.
This year I've been recovering from an injury. In May and June I was at home and had spare time, so wrote more than usual. For July and August I was back at work and had much less time than usual, so my letters have become slower.

I'm pretty much unchanged. I did have a few moments wherein replies were delayed, but it was only by a few days. I think that still counts as unchanged, so I will go with that.

Summer feels like it is here again, so have been distracted by the great outdoors. Still, adds ideas to write about in letters.

This will be my first summer of letter writing. I'm not sure which type of Summer Writer I will turn out to be.

I write when I get the time, usually on my day off and not galavanting on the mainland. Supposed to go to yoga this afternoon but I am too sore and tired so will take the time to sit and write some long overdue letters and 5Qs.

In Summer letter writing is most likely to be done on rainy days. There is so much to keep me occupied outside during the Summer. If I do write in Summer it is more likely to be on the weekends. So if my replies are taking longer you know why....I will get to them.
In Summer do you find that you write letters in a different place than in Winter?
