Sheaffer changing formulations is concerning because I love their red, even though I don't have a use for it. Hopefully it isn't altered too much. I do have a bottle of their turquoise unopened.
Next ink buy might be Pelikan turquoise as I loved the sample, probably from JetPens. Fortunately using up what I have and not really buying inks otherwise.

"seriously, no more inks" was held to for an impressive amount of time, I think. I'm a sucker for new inks in lines I already have a bunch of, so after the Birmingham buy, I unfortunately heard about the Sheaffer ink change. Pen Chalet only had three of those in stock; OK, I'll get those. And a nice Rotring pencil. And then... somehow, I stumbled on their having full bottles of the three new Iroshizuku inks. So that'll be here today. THEN, probably FB's fault, I found I'd missed the R&K Deep Pine ink of the year. Seitz Global is sadly out of business, but iPenStore had reasonable $4 shipping so I got it from there for $20 total. Looked for other stuff, since I love to buy $50 of stuff I don't need to avoid paying $7 shipping, but their selection is a bit sparse. Someone will get my order for most of the other Sheaffer ink, unless it gets horrible reviews. Maybe Vanness, maybe Chalet. I hit 25 "ink points" so, yay. My birthday 15% expired: boo! No new pens. Just pencils. Well, no new _fountain_ pens. I did my annual mid-year seeking of Pilot G2 with a 2022 mfg date and found a pack. So happy. Well, I guess this sounds familiar to many of us here. Too bad about Seitz Global. I just needed Kokuyo monthly scheduling notebook, which I order from Jetpens. In order to avoid the shipping cost I needed to add a few more things. The next thing I noticed that I clicked order button with four new inks….

Seriously, just bought even more inks. Found the inkvent for about $90 and ordered that, though I see that's about the regular price on Cult Pens. First inkvent I've bought. They are a little pricey. I'm hoping for a minimum of glitter/shimmer and that Diamine can be trusted to make scented ink that doesn't harm plastic. The "chameleon" inks also intrigue me. Noodler's General of the Armies never quite worked as well as I'd hoped (too much settling I think). And... got full 50mL of the three new Iroshizuku colors, despite only particularly liking the new green. Plus the three new Sheaffers I could find in stock (orange, grey, green). I'm failing to pick an inked pen to clean out and try the Iroshi in. There's a lot of 'em. Surely I can find one I can empty out.

Ordered two more inks last night - I realized I needed an orange for something I'm working on, and while I had a FWP one, last year I sent it to a penpal who would get much more use from it than I ever would've. I got a small (10mL) bottle of J Herbin's Orange indien, which is much more than I really need. Also ordered Private Reserve's Arabian Rose just because.

I got a small (10mL) bottle of J Herbin's Orange indien, which is much more than I really need. Also ordered Private Reserve's Arabian Rose just because. I'd do well to have 10 or 30mL bottles, with no more than six of any color. That ship sailed years ago... (like 20 years) I hope PR keeps the names like "Arabian" vs Noodler's new renaming scheme... no more Shah's Rose, Navajo Turquoise, or Apache Sunset. Sigh. Don't wanna get political (he _really_ stepped in it, PR has no label art so probably won't), but I really love ink names with some character. Instead of, say, like came up in one letter: what's the name of that ink you said was pink? The name is just Diamine... Pink. OTOH, I have mixed feelings about names that give me no clue about what the color is. Colorverse is quite guilty. Lights on Ceres? Yeah, that screams "magenta". IDK if most people in Japan know what "horsetail" or "wild chestnut" is. I guess they're brown... but might I know what "Japanese Beautyberry" looks like? OK, maybe... Colorverse, though. I'll stand by that. OTOH, it works... I love the physics/astronomy theme and buy a lot of ink mostly _for_ the name. I'll risk it again, with apologies if it rubs anyone the wrong way, re: Noodler's.... I sent my brother's father in law (they all live in Turkey) a bottle of Ottoman Azure specifically because it did refer to the Blue Mosque and had matching label art. He's a FP fan and he loved it. Most interesting gift I ever found for him. Sadly, he's no longer with us. Glad I got to visit Turkey for the wedding. Would love to go back to visit my bro but... ugh, air travel is bad enough for a 2 hour flight in-country (where I now need a passport vs my driver's license, in addition to shoe removal and no more than 2oz of any liquid), it's a nightmare to have a 14-hour flight. I'd love to visit Shenzhen in China as well... and ESPECIALLY wanna see London or (which city in?) Australia before I check out. I might just have to get over myself, at some point, and sit in the plane for 10-20 hours.

Is it just me or are the major brands' turquoise inks almost identical? Waterman, Pelikan, Sheaffer... They have some different properties when mixed, though. Waterman turquoise + blue is a runny mess (or maybe the ideal "wet" ink for some), whereas Pelikan does fine. Haven't tried that combo with Sheaffer. There was another mix... waterman blue + brown? Lovely mix but the color faded to one color (blue or brown I forget) in a few months on paper. The erasable blue inks are not my favorites. They're like, chemically not as good in a mix as a non-erasable blue. What's the best bright (saturated color) blue out there? Bay state is over the top and a bit too turquoise. Noodler's standard "Blue" is great. Sargasso is too purple. Diamine Blue Velvet or Monteverde Horizon Blue maybe (both, I find, indistinguishable from Penman Sapphire but without the crusty nib).

I think if you go strictly on turquoise, most major brands are probably pretty close in color. Diamine and Visconti look close together; Lamy looks a little more blue, and Pelikan looks a little darker than Lamy based on the Goulet swabs. Sheaffer might go towards greenish? In general, turquoise can go either towards blue, aqua, or teal - look at what Diamine puts out in the "turquoise" family. As for saturated blues: maybe PR American Blue and Visconti Blue? I might put down Aurora Blue and J. Herbin Eclat de Saphir as well. My problem with saturated blues is that I have difficulty telling if they're saturated or they're more blue-black.

I don’t know if I have a favourite brand. I love Robert Oster for the variety and they do have some fab shades. But the same could be said for KWZ ( which I also really like). I do love the Pilot iroshizuku range for a treat but in all honest I probably have close to 20 different brands of ink on my ink shelf. Paper preference is for the Japanese brands but I also use and enjoy Rhoda and other non Japanese brands

Curious about peoples preferences regarding inks and papers. What is your favorite brand of ink and why? What is your ink color preference? What inks are wet writing and dry writing? What is your favorite brand of writing paper? Do you select for it's texture, design, or fountain pen friendliness, or price? Where do you usually purchase your ink and paper, brick and mortar store or order on the internet or other source? Monteverde. Reasonable price, wide color range, smaller bottles, usually well-behaved. Followed by any 'penmaker' ink made before 1980. Because I have accumulated a few older pens and don't put anything else in them. Color pref, in order, blue-black, blue, gray, green, brown, black, orange, burgundy.
Wet or dry…? I try matching dry inks to wet pens and so on.
And vintage paper, which was made with fountain pens in mind. Although Cosmo Air is a recent favorite. it really shows off the inks!
Used to shop Pearl, and local art supply stores, but now, strictly innerwebz.

When I first started with fountain pens, I had to have every color of ink…but found myself using mostly muted blues and blue greens, especially blue blacks and deep, dark teal blues. I like Diamine and Sailor. My most used is Sailor Ink Studio 941. Sailor has the most unique colors and most Sailor inks are very well behaved. Occasionally I go for brighter blues, love Robert Oster Fire and Ice.
I use mostly Tomoe River and Iroful paper, Iroful is a Japanese brand, kind of a cross between Tomoe River and Cosmo Air Light. I like Midori paper too, when I’m in the mood for something less smooth. I’m thinking of taking a break from Hobonichi and getting a Traveler’s Notebook with Midori planner inserts this year…though it’s already two months into the year so I’m kind of late with starting a planner, which is why I need a planner in the first place…to help me do the things I need to do.
I buy stuff everywhere, have a fondness for online Japanese pen/stationary shops. Yoseka in NYC is within driving distance…I would love to go there in person.

Yoseka 'sold' me a strange round brass dip nib that I did not need but which is fantastic.

On my trip away last week I did buy a bottle of ink made in Tasmania. I cant tell you any more because I left the bottle in the car on the mainland. Will have to finish reporting on Tuesday when I bring it back home. It is a mixture of gold and blue and is very exquisite, now to find a fountain pen to use it with.

TWSBI just released a Dark Sapphire Eco. Mine just arrived, and the color is even more stunning in real life. Might that one work with your ink?
