All increases so far are for packages, to take effect on January 9th. I somehow missed that non-machinable surcharge went to 30 cents? No proposed increase in letter rates, but this line from stamps.com was interesting:

I guess my butterfly squares went up in value.

I just love our new postmaster general. Still hoping he has to find a new job soon. Arrrgh. Should be limited to once every two years.
I mean, at least we have forever stamps instead of having to stack "make up" small stamps but, still, I like to use in-country stamps for half my international letters, and I hate to have to keep recalculating what combinations of letter, postcard, additional ounce, and small value stamps to use.

Same! I don't mind postage increases when those increases are going to fund an essential service, but you can't tell me that they can't project how much they will need to increase over a longer period than 6 months. I also don't buy international stamps because they are boring and ugly, but I hate having to keep various definitive stamps to make domestic stamps work. I never bought the non-machinable stamps because adding the additional ounce stamp to a first class stamp amounted to the same thing. Now I will need to add a definitive stamp to make up the difference. Sigh. It's especially frustrating because I can't always predict what the local sorting facility will deem "non-machinable." For a while, almost every handmade envelope was returned for additional postage. Then, suddenly, they were accepted again. It gets frustrating. I've also recently learned that my outgoing mail has been significantly delayed in many cases. Anyone who has corresponded with me for a while has noticed that Texas is hella slow with getting the mail out. I'm sorry. If you haven't heard from me in a long time, let me know and I will write. But rest assured that if you wrote me, I did write back. The letter is just floating around out there somewhere.
