Curse these modern times. I sent a letter to a former manager that I had grown close to. She received the letter today and texted me her reply. The only reason I wrote her a letter in the first place is that she's not real good with texting, and I knew she wrote letters to one of her sisters. What can I say. It brought some joy to her day. Has anyone else had family members that they've always written to switch mediums of communication to either text, e-mail, or even Facebook (we'll exclude phone calls)?

I'm the only one in my family to ever have written anything so I don't have that problem. My problem is getting them to reply at all!

I have a former co-worker who I correspond with - I send her a letter, she sends me an email. Works great! I'm not interested in migrating anyone into sending a physical letter. Never had a text though. One of my old friends also replied to my letter I sent her with an effusive email.

I tell people who are not writers that I do not expect a letter in reply unless they want to. Some do, some do not. Either is fine. I do not do ti for the expectation of an obligation to reply in kind.
