I know there are people who collect First Day Cover and Pictorial Postmarks, but I wonder if anybody send letters with them. I know the process is a little involved, by placing your letters (with sufficient postage of course) in the larger envelope, send it to the address specified, and they will postmark and each letter will be delivered by the postal system. I noticed a couple of letters I received in the past had those postmarks. Interesting idea to try if I have a stack of letters to mail. Also I could make fake postmark with rubber stamps with the date stamp, but of course I can’t cancel the stamps with it ;-)

I love those postmarks, I dont know if Australia does, do we @patracat ? I will investigate when I got to the postoffice. Our first day covers are usually not that cheap so I dont use them to post, who knows someone one here might be surprised if I send one now that the idea has been planted thanks purplemaze UPDATED: Well wouldn't you know it, I just googled postmarks Australia and lo and behold we do have them hahaha

When I collected stamps, and bought all the Australian stamps, sometimes I would buy them on the day of issue, and if the subject was something that appealed to me I would buy the first day cover and have it stamped with the particular postmark relating to the subject. I think you have to do it on the day of issue, otherwise it would just be a regular postmark.
