With the incoming new year, I am rethinking my letter storage. I like to keep my letters, but the accordion file storage I've been using just didn't work for me. How do you organize and store your letters?

I have a 5cm plastic drawer, one out of 6 on the desk, dedicated to replied-to letters. It has filled up maybe three times. I've taken most of the letters out each time and put them in a stack on a shelf in the storage room, under a basket of not-so-great battery chargers. Since they aren't scanned in, or organized in any way other than chronological, I'm not sure there's a point to keeping them for years and years. Can't bear to toss them out, though. So much else, of so little value, to toss first. A stack of framed photos I don't really want on the walls ever again. But, they're photos I took, so they're special? right? They hung for 5+ years in the other house and I think I've seen more than enough of them.

Then whenever I go to put a new photo in I find all kinds of surprise pictures in the frame.

For awhile, I kept letters in a decorative box that looks like a book (like you buy at Michaels or Hobby Lobby), one for each year. But now I'm rethinking that too and for correspondents that write constantly/consistently, I keep all their letters together, tied with pretty ribbon - all the years together - but still in a decorative box.
This year, however, for the copious amounts of Christmas cards I received, I'm going to bind them into a book. Sometimes I think about doing that with my letters, but would have to figure out how to laminate them so that both sides of the letters are visible.

I do that too!

I used to have them organized by pen pal. Now I just have a cabinet full of letters that have been replied to. Sigh. To scan or not to scan?

I have a cardboard box where I have a pile tied with a ribbon for each of my regular penfriends' letters. The miscellaneous letters from swaps or new people I keep in a smaller box. Those I toss after a year or so, if it seems there won't be any continuing correspondence/ contact with the person. If the correspondence continues, I tie the letters and move them to the other box.
I love that people use a variety of stationery, but for storing purposes it would be easier if the sizes and shapes of envelopes didn't vary so much

I used to pile my letters to reply somewhere in my room, and when I'm done, I store them in a shoes box. Hopefully I've this box for un-answered letters now : For my answered ones, I have, between many, these boxes : out of ... 10, but I don't use them all still. I am thinking about random gigantic hermetic plastic boxes : it may be ugly, but it seems ridiculous to hide my address once in my home, and it may also last longer. I'll off course keep my nicest boxes

I used to keep mine in decorative boxes but they outgrew them...so now I store them in 3-ring binders. Each letter gets its own plastic sleeve, and the envelope is placed behind it.
