It varies a lot in Japan, probably depending on the size of the post district you're in, but most post boxes have a morning round and an afternoon round on weekdays. The one nearest my home collects at 10 in the morning and 17 in the afternoon.

I have seen the times be a bit vague, like I cannot tell if they mean by 5p or at 5 pm? By 5p means they could come earlier. I usually drop mine off at the P.O. on the way to work.

There's a post box in the wall just 100 yards from where I live which usaed to be emptied at 6pm every day but then they changed it to 7am (why?) but in the newsagent/post office I work in there are three pick-ups each day....at 1pm, 3pm and the final one at 5.05pm All mail collected is taken to the sorting office on the outskirts of town and then at 6.30pm the whole day's pick-ups are taken to the big sorting office in Team Valley in Gateshead (approx 40 miles away) where it then gets sent out to it's various destinations in UK and around the world.

Just curious - how long does national mail take in your countries?
In the Netherlands, postcards and letters are usually delivered the next day (if mailed before last collection around 5 pm)

I've mailed things to Philadelphia, which is 45 minutes away, and it has taken two or three days.

We have a two day turn around for local mail too. It goes to the sorting center an hour away, then back the next day.
