I found this video on letterlocking. I once received a triangle fold locked letter in the mail and was absolutely thrilled.

I’m guilty of sending a Russian triangle fold once in a while. I actually sent one to the woman in the video above that mrsduffy posted. Her name is Jana Dambrogio, and she is known for her studies and lectures on the history of letter locking (see letterlocking.org). I do it with a little slit and tab that fits through it before being embedded in the wax as a way to secure it and indicate tampering. Here’s a photo of one from the back. flic.kr/p/2jzpp8Q

I have so much fun with these, as I use a mix of ink to get just the right hue, a dip pen, and flowery language to get into an imagined time period.
