I have a couple of paperweights, but I don't use them. (Maybe if it was windier where I write....) One belonged to my grandmother, and it's just a slab of clear glass with rounded edges, about the size of a deck of playing cards. The other was given to me by my mother, and it's a half sphere of clear acrylic with a bunch of 1976 pennies embedded in it.
I did a little bit of looking around on the internet.... Wow! There are paperweight collector societies, photographs of beautiful antique paperweights, and... over 2000 results for the search term "glass paperweights" on Amazon, with prices ranging from a few dollars to several hundred dollars.
Does anyone here use or collect paperweights?

I'm thinking that paperweights were more of a thing before air conditioning and when office building windows could be opened. That's all just conjecture though... I really have no idea

A university friend collected paperweights, mainly Caithness Glass. I don't know what happened to his collection when he moved from England to the US.
In Love Actually, if only Colin Firth's character had proper paperweights, the draft of the novel wouldn't end up in the lake....
I have written letters outside, and have needed something to hold the paper down. I have a clipboard, but the letter being replied to needs something too.
On a more morbid theme, there's a company that will mix glass with cremation ashes to create paperweights (also jewellery) - family heirloom, anyone?

My wife told me that, where she works, a lot of people have fans in their offices, and those people all use paperweights.

I guess I do collect them...
My son is always bringing me gifts of rocks and shells, since he was old enough to pick things up. I have a 10 year accumulation and the finer specimens serve as paperweights when all the ceiling fans are on!

I guess I do collect them... My son is always bringing me gifts of rocks and shells, since he was old enough to pick things up. I have a 10 year accumulation and the finer specimens serve as paperweights when all the ceiling fans are on! I have one paperweight. I believe I bought it several years ago at a Christmas holiday bazaar. It had a very artistic look to it, so I bought it because it was pretty and I wanted it to add a touch of color to my desk. My daughter is done with college now, and she just moved back in with us. She's sorting through all of her possessions so that she can make her old bedroom more comfortable. She's got a large box labeled "ROCKS" that she plans to donate. I will have to take a look at it to see if there is anything I would like to keep for myself. She and I have always had a thing for pretty rocks. I know some people use large rocks as paperweights.
