I find that one of the hardest thing about letter writing is actually closing the letter. I find myself excusing my rambling most often or saying that what I had written was enough for the day and that I look forward to their letter. Which valediction do you use? I'll take notes on anything creative I come by.

It is not creative; in place of creativity I choose consistency. Almost every letter ends with: until next time, Best Regards.

I have received letters where the letter has been ended at the end of the page with a Regards/Hugs/... squeezed in the corner. Time for bed is another one I've seen/used before signing off.

i usually end my letters "Until next time". Just prior to that, just about anything goes.

I am a rambler. Most of my letters seem to be a stream of conciousness...so I write until my brain is empty. Sometimes it's more abrupt than I'd like. And bedtime always DOES seem a reason to end a letter. A look at the clock and realizing that work starts in a few hours is a motivator to stop the gabbing and try to sleep.

A look at the clock and realizing that work starts in a few hours is a motivator to stop the gabbing and try to sleep. My hubby Neil works night shift five nights a week so I enjoy the peace in the evenings to sit and write my letters. Often I'll be so engrossed in writing that I won't realise the time until the radio programme I'll have on in the background finishes and a new presenter takes over That tends to be when I realise the lateness of the hour and if I'm at work the next day (in a small post office - very handy! ) I'll often bring my letter to a close so I can get it sent off when I get to work. If I still have a few things to chat about I'll end the sentence I'm writing and then put my letter writing stuff away in the drawer next to my desk and resume it the next day

I don't like ending a letter in the middle of the page, or on just the front side of the page leaving unused blank paper. Seems such a waste. So I usually try to time my rants and rambles so that they end near the bottom of the second side of the piece of paper. Then some form of utilitarian closing.

I don't write anything consistent, but I draw a heart and sign my name inside it as a closing.

I tend to have more words than I do space, so I'm certainly guilty of squeezing a tiny signature into the corner of a full page from time to time. I don't really mind ending on a half page, but I still tend to do a little mental calculation when I'm near the end of a page: Whoops, only 4 lines to go. Do I want to write another page, or end it here? Then I just go 'OK, that's probably good for now, talk to you later, until then, best regards etc.,' in increasingly tiny writing.
One day I'll actually come to a coherent end somewhere just over halfway down a page, and have room to write my name properly, in HUGE SWIRLY LETTERS.

Bye for now, Signature
That is my standard sign off.

I certainly have more choices now.

I've ended mine kind of consistently.
"Well, that's all for now, but I hope you're doing well and to hear from you soon! Regards,"
