I stopped by to pay my mechanic for some work he had done. He's an old school guy... Check or cash only. I was prepared! I had remembered to bring my checkbook! When I pulled the check book from my shirt pocket it somehow hooked my Pilot 823 which did a swan-dive to the stained concrete floor of the shop... I knew something had gone terribly wrong when I saw the golden clip clattering and spinning on the floor by itself Clyde helped me gather up the pieces. That part of the shop is crowded with tool boxes and shelving full of heavy greasy parts and buckets of lubricant. We never found the cap finial. I left feeling a bit sad and deflated... So, the guys on the slack channel hooked me up with a link for the Pilot USA service department. I sent them a message explaining about the cracked and incomplete cap, and asking if they could fix or replace it. I got an email the next morning. They said that a replacement cap would cost $74. But, if I didn't mind waiting till August (when their repair guy returned), they would fix it for free! Woot! Life is good! I bought that pen, brand new, at my first pen show. It's one of the nicest (and most expensive) pens I own. I'm really pleased with the response from Pilot! Perhaps there is hope after all

I hope your pen is back to writing in good time.
My story from 2 days ago, is that I had a Watermans Crusader Taperite that was having odd ink flow problems. It still had an old sac inside so I tried to take the section off. While applying heat from my wife’s hairdrier I managed to heat it enough to give the barrel a real ugly warp. Oops.
I’m not too worked up about it. The section has a crack in it, I think from the plastic shrinking over time, so it wasn’t one of my favourite pens. Maybe one day I’ll try again to see what I can do with it. It might be a good pen to practice a crack repair on one day.

I have a beautiful (at least it was) red Parker ring top. It has three cap rings and a clip as well as the ring. Anyway I was capping it and all of a sudden looked and saw that about 1/3 of the cap lip had snapped off below the cap rings. It is perfectly functional but cosmetically it is not so nice anymore. I don't know if I can find a cap! feel bad it is a neat pen otherwise.

I had a few pens in my laptop bag which I'd put on top of a roller suitcase during an airline trip. (The laptop bag has straps on the back that go around the suitcase handle and Velcro into place, so it was pretty secure.)
Alas, the whole thing was badly balanced and it fell forward, away from the handle.
I didn't realize until I got to Toronto that in the impact, two nice vintage fountain pens, my blue celluloid Vacumatic and my Aurora 88P, broke in two on the barrel. I was heartbroken.
I sent them away to a US repairman (I'd have to dig to remember who) via my US address and it took forever until I heard back - maybe a year? - but they thought they could repair them. It was probably another year before I got them back. It took forever.
But you know what? I can't see where the repairs were made. They were beautifully done.

My vintage fountain pens stay in my desk for exclusive use at home for just this reason - I'm too afraid they'll get broken or ruined. I carry disposable Pilot fountain pens or the more inexpensive ones around in my purse or book bag.

Oh, I’m sorry! That sick feeling of watching your pen in free fall! But thank heaven for the epic customer service. You’ll be together again in short order.

I was writing a letter when one tine on my 'Margaret pen', a Weidlich black hard rubber matchstick filler with gold overlay, broke off. I contacted Greg Minuskin and he said it couldn't be repaired. I found two Weidlich #4 nibs and purchased them, the original was a #5, but the #4's fit and work. The original was a wonderful flex nib but the two new ones are both nails. I'm debating if I want to send the pen to a nibmeister and have her add some flex. Then it would be almost back the way it was. I was really bummed when it happened to a favorite pen.

That's actually tragic.
