Since the age of the internet, it is becoming more common to virtually met the person your corresponding with online but never physically met them at first. Have you ever met one of these people in person? Where they what your were expecting them to be like? Did you meet up by chance or go visit them? I've been fortunate enough to have. In college I met a very great friend who was from Germany. A year after he returned there I went to visit him. I had been writing letters to a German teacher that lived is Austria for a few years by then and she encouraged me to stay with her for a few days. I, of course took that opportunity. By that time I needed a little time apart from my other friend. So off to Austria I went! Honestly, besides reuniting with a dear friend, meeting her was as if I had known her forever. Her personality was exactly how she portrayed it through her letters and more. I'm sure our general love of books, history, tea, and coffee helped. She made me feel as if Vienna was my home and I had simply came back to visit. I'm still blow away by the whole experience.

I've had the opportunity to meet a few pen pals at the DC pen show this year. They were all as great in person as on the page.

Just a summary of Dallas pen show. Hung out with Tiffany, Lesley, Denise, and Tracy, and my Linda of course. Bought 6 pens: Waterman 3 flex, Lamy 2000 (my budget thanks you Tiff), 78G Italic, Regal M pearl, Franklin Christoph pocket pen Masayuma italic, and Visconti Homo Sapien Florentine Hills (thanks Tracy). 3 inks - Bung Box witch & 4B and black in old style bottle. Indy-Pen Dance fixed a Bexley nib I have not liked since I bought it basically still a new pen. New nib & smoothed and an excellent experience with them. All for now, more coming in letters for the fp folk. It was very fun and I was much less shy and it was easier to talk to people. Thanks to all my friends for helping be more extroverted.

I've had the extreme honour & pleasure of meeting Migo & Murfie when they came up to visit Sydney earlier this year. And again at the southern tip of Victoria when Mrs Bogon and I were in transit to Tasmania in July this year.

I have had the fortune to meet a handful of my penpals. The first occasion was almost a lifetime ago when he happened to be in the area and stopped in for a visit. By in the area I mean he left home (what was at the time Czechoslovakia) and was traipsing through the caribbean and figured he would stop into the Cayman Islands for a few days. In the beginning it was a wee bit awkward but that didnt last long.

Pen shows have allowed me to meet a handful of penpals, a work trip let me meet caribbean_skye in April and then I flew to Dallas last weekend and hung out with her and Tiffany which was a blast. Last November my husband and I flew to Toronto for the wedding of a pen pal (Gerald) and hung out with two other pen pals (Mags and Kataish) and gained a third at the same table. It was so fun. We are contemplating an Australia trip to meet Bogon, Migo, Murfie, and even Nicholas if we can work that all out. What a great way to travel!

We could all meet up in Sydney maybe? Or come and visit us at the seaside :-)

I probably saw you, you maybe saw me but we didn't recognise each other. I'll plan better next time.

I'll plan better next time. I was daft - I didn't think to ask if you were going. I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. It must be difficult for you, living so far away from Cardiff. I wish her well. We will probably go to the Bristol Pen Show early in 2016, assuming they hold it. Do you ever get to that one?
