After the soldier I was sending weekly letters to returned from deployment I discovered the site I used for that was no longer running the program. I decided to do a couple pen pal sign ups.
Since L.W.A. is shutting down, I decided to utilize their pen pal swap. I submitted my info and, after a brief wait, got an email with contact info then a 2nd that informed me I should disregard the previous email because they had accidentally matched me with the person who was supposed to write to me first. That email included contact info for the person I was actually meant to write first. I wrote a letter to that person and stuck it in the mail on the 23rd September. As of today, I haven't heard back from them and I have not received a letter from the person who was supposed to write to me first.
In October I saw that a blogger was doing a pen pal sign up so I submitted my information and got info for 2 people I should write to first. My info was supposed to be sent to at least one other person who would write to me first. As of today, I haven't received a first letter from anyone connected to that blog (and so far no replies to my letters). I actually did a pen pal sign up with this particular blogger back in January 2017 and ended up with 3 lovely pen pals from that sign up.
I know this kind of thing happens but it's still disappointing that it happened with 2 different sign ups in such a short time period.

One of the other penpalling sites do a penpal match. I submitted my request a while back, sent my letter, but never did receive a letter from the other partner or a reply.
Another snail mail website, Swap-bot, does more arts and crafts than letters. There are organised swaps and partners are generated randomly from within those signed up to it. Amazingly, for the letter swaps, this has been quite successful and I am still corresponding with at least two people through it!
Sometimes I just like the randomness. For the alternate Incowrimo site with the list of addresses up from sometime in January until end of November, I randomly pick who to write to, through Ctrl+F search (e.g. different types of trees/flowers...., or perhaps numbers in the address).
