Wow that's an insane long travel!
I'm in a very small country, The Netherlands, so that's no comparison. Usually delivered the within two days, if not it's lost and you'll never see it at all. Must say that last scenario doesn't happen regularly.
Mail I used to send to Iran took the longest - between two weeks and 3 months. I don't know if all mail was delivered because we had no other contact (for her safety). Still, this is easier to believe than US domestic mail taking half a year!!

I think I'm pretty picky penpal wise, but someone's marital status or number of children has never been a reason for me to quit correspondence. I actually could never have guessed this is an issue for anyone, so it got me thinking. Perhaps those people have many prejudices about mothers and motherhood. My only advice is to try and let it not bother you too much.

I like all sorts of ink except for extremely bright colours like yellow or some flashy pink. Also blue-blacks are not my first choice, but not unpleasant to read or anything.
My current favourites include J Herbin Larmes de Cassis, J Herbin Vert Empire and Diamine Chocolate Brown.

My longest correspondence is about 6 years (and counting), but it's through e-mail. My penpal is blind, so this is not really a choice. Snail mail? I've got a friend for a year or 3 with whom I communicate in many ways including snail mail, but the letter writing is on and off. The rest is under a year, but hey I'm still young

The cosmetic one I wouldn't dare to try, but I might ask my local craft store about it.

I voted "Yes for some penpals, no to others" because it would depend on the penpal and how well I know him/her. If someone starts asking for a photo in the second letter already or if I feel we're only chatting a bit but we're not really "friends", I'd say no. Others, I wouldn't mind sending a picture.
Chojo, I can't believe you lost penpals by showing yourself! I would only be curious to see my penpals, but it wouldn't matter to me at all if they look like America's next top model or not.

Just curious - how long does national mail take in your countries?
In the Netherlands, postcards and letters are usually delivered the next day (if mailed before last collection around 5 pm)

Using my Parson's Essential a lot nowadays. With my newest favourite ink (I'm still pretty new to bottled ink too) Diamine Bilberry, it's so enjoyable.
At work (teacher) I couldn't resist and switched from ballpoint & rollerball to fountain pen too: a lovely grey Kaweco Sport with Diamine orange cartridges. Great size to keep in my pocket all day and nice vibrant color from the ink!

It has arrived!!
Tried it a bit already and love the smoothness of the nib & the weight of the pen. Instantly my favourite fountain pen!
Murfie & migo, thank you so much!

I've sent a PM with my full name.
I'm so happy and really curious about how it will write!

I'd be most interested in the Italix Parson's Essential.

Postcards count too, don't they? After some (or most) days of work I can't get myself to write a letter anymore.
