Did NOT factor in the fountain pen collection! 😂🤣😂 I had to laugh. I started writing letters to "justify" my pen and ink habit.😂🤣😂

With over 100 fountain pens, I had to do something to justify my obsession and writing letters was the best option. And it is so much fun when a new old pen arrives in my mailbox and I run and ink it!, only three new pens in the last two months!!! I only count stationery, envelopes and stamps as letter writing expenses. Fountain pens are a whole different animal

I started writing letters to "justify" my pen and ink habit. Same here. Started with the "Snail Mail Writing List" thread on FPN in 2011 when I was getting back into pens after a 8 year budget-related hiatus. Had about 3 or 4 from that, and then InCoWriMo happened in... 2013? I journaled off and on, too, but never could go through much ink doing that vs letter writing. About the only pure penpal expense are boxes of cards from Chronicle or Peter Pauper. Pens, ink, other paper is pretty much general pen-hobby expense.

Let us know what you think of it - I've seen mixed reviews on Amazon.... I like it! I will also be using it for my scrapbooking hobby (ie - creating a 3x4 inch envelop for a journaling card, or embellishment) so it is a win win. The instructions are not exactly clear, so I recommend watching a youtube review video. The following page is also helpful... as you can type in your envelop's dimensions, and then receive the score line: thecraftyowl.co.uk/EnvelopeExpert

I have made lots of envelopes using a template made by deconstructing a pen pal’s envelope which I traced onto some card stock for a pattern. It was a special shape which I liked. Then I’d use the scrap booking sheets at hobby stores but the BEST envelopes I made came from an Audrey Hepburn black and white calendar.

I have the envelope punch board as well, and go in spurts with making envelopes. There’s an Instagram shop I buy a lot of vintage papers from (usually graph or other office/ accounting and lined papers), and cut them down. I also buy a lot of vintage tickets and receipts that I use on those envelopes (as well as in my journals - I decorate my pages before I write). I counted somewhat recently and have somewhere in the area of 350 washi tapes. Between fountain pens and inks and all the stationery sets I’ve also accumulated, I am well-stocked for a very long while, and I’m really trying to curb buying much more until I make a serious dent in what I already have.

I love all of these ideas for envelopes and stationery. Does anybody have any suggestions for websites with tutorials/tips on creating unique envelopes/stationery? I'm using a personalized stationery download from Etsy which I print on nice paper, a wax seal, lined envelopes, and pretty sticker for the outside. I buy forever stamps directly from the USPS. (I'm still fangirling over the 100 years of women's suffrage stamps.) I would love to make my letters more my own by decorating them.

There's also Pinterest - where I lose hours just looking at all the pretty pictures! And YouTube has tutorial videos for envelopes - I've never looked for stationery videos, since I just use washi tape, stickers, and occasionally print on them.

And I’m not afraid to sacrifice an envelope here and there, just to experiment. Sometimes what’s in my head works out well in reality, sometimes not so much.

interestingly, one of the British emails that arrives in my inbox from time to time arrived last night with a mention of "the best stationery shops ... in the world?" So, I just had to have a look. As you do. Fair warning - wading through this link may be detrimental to your purse/wallet/bank accounts and arguably could be classified as NSFW! That said, enjoy!!! Best Stationery shops...in the world? This board may prove to be as financially detrimental as FPN.
