Do you put the location with the date on your letter?
Example: Tokyo, March 19, 2019

Sometimes I do. I try to share a little about where I am writing from if it's not normal, boring Morton, IL.

No, because my location is in my return address anyway. Sometimes, if I remember, I try put a little info like Katie does with her cards, but that is IF I remember

I will if I’m traveling. I’m more likely to add in weather info so I can gloat or complain about it when necessary.

By force of habit I usually put in my location, which in 95% of the cases is my home. And if I'm not writing at home, it is still likely that some portion of a letter was written at home anyway (I take a few days for a letter). Maybe it's redundant to put it in each time, I should probably just save it for special locations. Which would also be redundant as I would likely start the letter "here I am in..." anyway

Always. Maybe it's my secretarial past, maybe I lack imagination!
I like to write letters in unexpected formats (as recipients know!), but the content follows the tried and trusted formula - location, date, dear recipient, asking how they are and thanking them for their last letter. Once I've done that, I can do whatever I like!!

My opening paragraph frequently includes a description of my immediate surroundings... Not necessarily a formal location declaration, more like a scene setting. I think I do that more often with ongoing correspondence, maybe not so often in first letters. Hard to say. It's not something I have ever really analyzed.

I used to write my address in the top right hand corner of the first page of a letter, but rarely do this now. I always write the date, and only sometimes the town/city or cafe location. I like the idea of putting a weather graphic in.

Just the date at the top for me (sometimes with the time) and then in the intro I may mention where I am writing from.

Postcards yes, letters no. I'm weird and send more postcards than the average person does and it seems almost required to add a location to a postcard even if I'm just at home. My letters are all written at home or at work when things get slow as I type them all up on a computer first so no exotic locales involved.

For new or irregular correspondents, I always put where I am writing from at the top.
For regular correspondents (e.g. my long-term traveling journals), I don't mention if I am in my home city, but always write at the top if I am somewhere else, and then, of course, get to talking about it (even if incidentally, e.g. "I am in Estevan, Saskatchewan on business today"). Usually, though, if I am away, I am somewhere interesting, or at least en route to or from such a place.
I actually make an effort to write from interesting places if I can. It's fun, and gives me an excuse to use the local postal service if I am outside the country.

I don't usually put my location with the date. On the first letter to someone I usually put one of my return address labels at the bottom of the letter, just in case the letter is separated from the envelope. I figure that after that they will have my address either in their address book or card file, or computer.
I sometimes put my weather information at the top with the date....it is more changeable than my location!!!!

A letter I received yesterday (the first from a new pen pal from LWA) prompted this question because the location was listed with the date as in my example above. I have another pen pal who always lists the location like that, too.
I include information if I'm writing from somewhere other than home (like the garage while I'm waiting for work to be done on my car) but that's just part of the letter. I've never written the location with the date.

I definitely always do it. I remember having a traveling journal with me in the Kansas City area last spring and I started my entry with "Overland Park, Kansas" and the date. Not sure why - just always have.
