I was listening to Desert Island Discs last Friday, the interview with Bill Gates. Remember one of my 5Q5L questions? Your choice of 8 pieces of music/audio...... Well, Bill Gates chose one Steve Jobs introduced him to - Two of Us by The Beatles.... I don't dislike the Beatles but I never heard that song before.... Wondering if there are other songs out there mentioning postcards, letters, stamps...

"...send me a postcard, drop me a line, stating point of view..." When I'm 64. Funny how 64 used to seem really, really old; now it's just old.

Then there's Love Letters In The Sand (Pat Boone), which are really hard to put in the post.

How about the Elvis classic 'Return to Sender':
I gave a letter to the postman, He put it his sack. Bright & early next morning, He brought my letter back.
She wrote upon it: Return to sender, address unknown. No such number, no such zone.
We had a quarrel, a lovers' spat I write I'm sorry but my letter keeps coming back.
So then I dropped it in the mailbox And sent it special D. Bright & early next morning It came right back to me.
She wrote upon it: Return to sender, address unknown. No such person, no such zone.
This time I'm gonna take it myself And put it right in her hand. And if it comes back the very next day Then I'll understand the writing on it
Return to sender, address unknown. No such number, no such zone.
Return to sender Return to sender

My absolute favorite is Please Write by The Tokens (although the version I listen to says unreleased), Navy Blue by Donna Lynn mentions getting a letter from Tokyo, Remember (Walkin' in the Sand) by the Shangri-Las starts with her receiving a letter, Teardrops On My Letter by Eddie Ringo, The Letter by The Charmers, Write Me A Letter by Carlo & The Belmonts, Dear Judy (Why Don't You Write Me) by The Tokens, I Wrote A Letter by The Serenaders (again my version says unreleased)and finally Letter To A Schoolgirl by The Delcardos. I'm sure there are more but those were the ones a quick scan of my regular playlist showed me. I went a little farther than the 90s I'm afraid Edit: You know, computers are an amazing thing. I typed in "letter" in my music folder and it pulled up a couple I had forgotten and a few I didn't know I had. In Your Letter by Randy & The Rainbows (this is a cover of someone else's original), A Letter To Hayley by Billy Kidd, A Letter To Heaven by Dolly Parton, A Letter To The Beatles by The Four Preps (this is a parody of A Letter to Hayley or vice versa), A Letter From Ann by The Videls, and If My Heart Could Write A Letter by The Crests. Then I typed in "write" and discovered Why Don't You Write Me by The Jacks/Cadets. One that had bugged me and I was finally able to remember was Roses Are Red by Bobby Vinton.

"I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter And make believe it came from you." I doubt that any of you are even old enough to remember that one Also, Postcards by James Blunt. The video is really well done and features a lot of postcard images. You can see it here on YouTube.

Missing Someone by Bobby Chase (from 1965) just cycled through my music player and he gets a "Dear John" letter which he quotes. I bet this was a familiar refrain in many songs during the Vietnam War era.

The lovely Missive Maven has been doing a Masters degree in Music, and she has written & composed songs. One she shares on her blog. One of her songs was thought of after staring at her pile of letters needing replies so she ponders the letters left unwritten..

"From Sarah with Love" by Sarah Connor is about the singer writing a letter. Robbie Williams' "No regrets" is not about writing per se but, among other things, Robbie says "drop me a line".
