Well, I thought I’d get a head start on the long travel time and on November 10th, I mailed a Christmas card to sunshine2170 in Australia. Today, the card showed back up in my mailbox, covered in “mail service suspended” stickers. Again?!? I thought that was over! Ugh. I’ll take it to the PO later this week, and see if service is un-suspended yet. But Bridget, I’m sorry, I feel like it’s going to be really late. Maybe I should draw some hearts and write Happy Valentines Day on the envelope…

I will try to send more season's greetings cards than those mentioning Christmas.... just in case they do get delayed, this year.

I sent all the important mail to the US in November, and this week all the letters to European countries. It usually takes for a letter to reach the US 10 days or 15 in the worst case, and a couple of days to EU countries. I haven't noticed any delays this season but last year all the Christmas cards I sent arrived on February, so we will see this year.

Yesterday (11th December) I received a letter from Australia that was posted on 1st November. My friend said that she received my letter from mid June in October. *Sigh*

Received in the mail today: A Postcrossing card from France that was mailed on March 3rd. It floated around in the mail system somewhere for 286 days!

I expect some of the cards I've sent this year will arrive after Christmas, even within the UK as there are delays (lack of staff) at some delivery offices...

Today, I received a letter from Hungary that took almost a month (the norm is 2-4 work days). But the real zinger was a letter from the States. It was posted on 4th January, so it travelled nearly a year...

ginny, 4th january?! Wow, that's a long journey! It would be so fun to know where letters like that have been. Did it travel around the world, or slip behind a table and sit there for 10 months..

Something weird seems to be going on at the MN 553 sorting office in Minneapolis! Today I received two letters (thank you motsamicaux and penguy) and both have post marks from that centre. In fact, both have two postmarks from that sorting centre. One was postmarked 15th @3pm and then again Dec 17th @6pm. The other was first postmarked Dec 17th @5pm and then again on Dec 22nd @3pm.

They're out of sorts, the holidays you know! I think the world's mail systems are out of whack because of Covid, just glad you got the letter.

I ordered something from China in mid November, and it still hasn't arrived. I knew it would take some time, but assuming it actually was posted, this is starting to be quite a delay.
