I was browsing the USPS site and found an interesting section. I thought I remembered a thread about delayed mail but couldn't find it so here is a link you might find interesting. about.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international/welcome.htmI noticed that there was a delay in mail service in part of Australia for instance.

That is an interesting website penguy. It told me more about Australian mail delays than I knew before, despite living here! We are like mushrooms in this country, kept in the dark and fed b******t.

yes mail that take 37 days to get to the US or Europe used to take a week. Its the lack of flights that is the delay. I have a friend on the island whose son tried to get back to the US last week. He could not fly out of Brisbane International, he had to go to the Gold Coast and catch a flight to Sydney then onto the US.
Sometimes I work at the Brisbane mail centre and its incredible all the mail that comes through, its a miracle that they get through it all in time.

My grandma told me the united states used to get mail twice a day during the war aka ww 2 . Imagine the mess that would create now . I would be happy if they could just get the mail delivered in a timely fashion. But, I've given up on that and resolved just to be glad the mail gets there.

My grandma told me the united states used to get mail twice a day during the war aka ww 2 . Imagine the mess that would create now . Well, when I was a child in the late 60s / early 70s, we received mail on Christmas Day or Boxing Day (both are public holidays here in Germany, so you have two public holidays in a row). That's obviously unheard of nowadays.

It would be an interesting time to be a letter writer; probably less enjoyable as a desk jockey in an office or secretarial pool. I want to attempt receiving a letter and getting a reasonable reply out in the mail the same day.

I think that will be worldwide with all the lockdowns and delays. We have two states here in Australia that have been in lockdown since June and earlier on and off. Mail is haphazard and really late. I have had to send stuff to my daughters via Express Post to get it there at a decent time.
I'm just happy that I can still mail stuff and it hasn't stopped altogether

See more information here. This doesn't appear to affect regular first class letter service.

I just sent two letters off to the Minnesota Senators regarding mail service. I didn't have any good things to say about DeJoy, the Postmaster General. He seems to have investments in companies competing with the post office. I think it is another example of a fox in the hen house. It will be interesting seeing if I get a reply.

According to my correspondence log I sent your letter off on August 23. Perhaps I will have to send another letter updating what has happened since I sent the first letter. If you get the first letter it will indeed be vintage mail!
