I don't get a lot of opportunities to browse shops with good stationery locally, so what are your favorites? They can be anywhere in the world as long as they are actually brick-and-mortar shops, so nothing like JetPens, Goulet, or Jeff Bezos's Big Bazaar. If I'm in the area I'll try to make a stop in the following shops: Patrick & Co., San Francisco. Oblation Papers and Press, Portland, Oregon. Though I'm there more for the typewriters.... MUJI, various locations, for inexpensive paper and pens. Stylo in Montreal. (There are other places that are worth a visit too!) Mastnak in Vienna, Austria. (For postcards and pens, look no further than Mayr & Fessler which is by the State Opera House.)

There was a lovely shop I bought one of my first wax seals from. I can't remember the name of the shop, but it was a printers and booksellers, with a decent upstairs floor with arts, crafts and stationery. It was in Hanley near Stoke-on-Trent. I also bought the dinky-sized Parker refills (the short ones similar to the universal cartridges, not the long things). I think the owners wanted to retire and didn't have anyone interested in keeping it on. Sad.
Aberystwyth has a little stationer's/artshop called Inkwells. They don't have a huge range of pens, but they do have some MT washi tape.
I do miss Paperchase, although a lot of their stuff was on the "silly" side. I would try to buy things in their sales (wasn't really a branch local to me).
WHSmiths shop isn't exactly cheap for stationery (perhaps better to buy online from CultPens which is owned by WHSmiths parent company), but if you are desperate for Parker refills.... The bigger stores stock Legami, which I find so cute!
Hay-on-Wye, where there are more bookshops than any other shop type, has a little stationer's called Bartrum's (I think they also have an online presence). I bought one of the italic nibs for Lamy from there ages back, and some Vinta inks on my last visit.

I am so lucky to be near enough to Chicago that I can visit Atlas Stationers a couple of times a year. They have a lovely brick and mortar store, right next to the El tracks, so you get a true, noisy, Chicago experience. They also have a great online store. There's a fun little bar called "Monk's" nearby with a total "1970's basement" vibe with the decor and an extensive beer list. I discovered a lovely little stationery store in Pella, Iowa, USA last year. I don't know that any of you are going to ever end up in Pella (population 10,700), but I'll give Pella Paperie a shoutout. They had lots of notebooks and cards, stickers and washi tape. I was sad when Anderson Pens had to close their Chicago storefront. Lisa was always willing to talk pen and inks when we dropped by. I have been to the Appleton store once, and if you're ever in Wisconsin, I recommend stopping by Appleton. It's a neat city, and you can visit Anderson Pens!

On Paper in Columbus, OH's Short North district has long been one of my favorite stationery shops - It's where the oldest fountain pen in my collection came from. They moved to a new location last year or maybe the year before, so I haven't had a chance to visit yet. I believe it's around the corner from where they were originally, so I'm hoping to go when I head out there next month. I'm also planning on checking out Cincinnati's Paper Wings, a newer stationery shop in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood.

if you're ever in Wisconsin, I recommend stopping by Appleton. It's a neat city, and you can visit Anderson Pens! It is one of the few places other than NC that I've been in. My one and only business trip. Fortunately, during the Summer; unfortunately, before Anderson opened shop. I did enjoy the coffee shop, with live music one time I went. One of the mgmt at that job said I seemed to enjoy the cafe more than the office, to which I asked: "wouldn't anyone?" I did enjoy writing notes in a moleskine cahier with a Retro 51 stealth black pencil. Mostly stuff about software version control systems and some in-house kludge of a database-via-spreadsheet. I'm a hardware guy. No idea what I was doing there, in person. Nice town, though. Trying to figure out where else to visit, prompted by updating my passport. My last name officially has a space in the middle, and last time I renewed my license, that became a minor issue. Plane fare outside the USA is eye-watering. Atlanta and Boston are the furthest I've driven, or West to Chattanooga, TN. There's probably a stationery store in Atlanta. I ain't going up to Boston again - LONG drive. New York, _may_be. I know there are some there.

Mélodies Graphiques at 10 rue du Pont Louis Philippe in Paris' 4th arrondisement. Paper, quill pens, ink, cards, bookmarks.

I keep trying to get my sweetie to apply for a passport with the idea "what if I want to whisk you away to Paris"? Be a real capper on the romance if I spent half my time in pen shops.

IG recently notified me of a good British Airways "sale" for this fall.

It is a shame Paperchase (the store) is no more, though the brand is around somewhere (not seen much abundance of it though).
Visited Inkwells today... not quite for stationery but what I bought will alter stationery!
