I have a crazy idea! I think it would be fun to try something. I'd like to find someone on the east coast who has a friend on the West coast to write a letter to that person. Then hand off the letter to someone who is heading west. Ask the person to sign their first name on the back of the envelope and pass it on to someone else who is heading west. And they add their name on the back of the envelope. And so on and so on and so on until the letter gets to it's destination. Then we could know how many people it took to deliver the letter. No fair adding a stamp!
It might be that the letter would be given to a long distance trucker and jump half way across the country on one swift move or to someone who is just going to the next town west. I think the problem would be to get the letter to the correct address towards the end. The question is would the letter ever get to it's destination. if anyone starts a letter on it's way could you let us know. I suppose someone on the west coast could send one headed to the east coast.
It might be what it would be like if we didn't have a postal system. It could take a week, a month, a year, or never get to it's destination.
If someone does try it let us know how long it took when you get a response back from the recipient, preferably by USPS!

I wish this had started earlier because I could have started one from Australia and had it taken to the US by a pilot friend as he is a passenger and returned end of August.

Could this be from the west coast to the mid west?

You have inspired me ! I will launch my own hand-to-hand letter, and ask for the first person living in the United States being given it to email me.

I suppose a person could find a long haul trucker at a truck stop and find one going closest to the destination. It might actually get to the person faster than the USPS! I suppose the hardest part would be to find someone going to the final destination.
