We were discussing (shouting about?) letter openers, so I thought I would add a thread. So, show me your letter opener! Plain or fancy - it doesn't matter. Inquiring minds want to know! Catida , here's mine! dragon letter opener by Becky Long, on Flickr What better homage to my love of fictional worlds populated by dragons and fueled by magic?

I went through many iterations to find one that I could use to open the letter with one free hand, was not too bulky, and handy for all of those Amazon boxes that keep showing up on our doorstep.

I got it from Amazon or Walmart.com. It was on both, but I bought it from whichever had it for less $. The dragon is the holder and the sword is the letter opener. (I already had to reattach a claw because the little one loves to play with it despite being warned away.) MKB , it's always nice to have something that serves multiple purposes. I'm so clumsy, I would lose a body part or exsanguinate heavily by handling a knife like that! (That wax stamp is nice!)

MKB , it's always nice to have something that serves multiple purposes. I'm so clumsy, I would lose a body part or exsanguinate heavily by handling a knife like that! (That wax stamp is nice!) That was part of the reason for going through the iterations. The first one was so small it seemed perfect for slipping into a pocket and having available for a quick letter slice. Unfortunately, it was hard to control and keep my fingers out of the way with confidence. Its bigger cousin was also slim, but still a worry for an unintended finger injury at some point. (See what I did there, lol.) The next had the perfect mechanism on an easy to control knife, as I could open and close it with one hand and with my fingers well out of the way. Unfortunately, it had more of a military vibe and not something I felt comfortable using at my office to open a package, which is kind of funny as we have huge kitchen knives in the break room that no one would give a second thought to. I don't consider myself a "knife guy," so I was happy when I found this more reserved model with the thin carbon fiber handle scales yet the same safer mechanism. (Just waiting for dignum to say, "That's not a knife" pull out a monster and say, "Now this is a knife." )
