Also, with the pandemic, do you feel like you wrote more or less?

I wrote 235 letters in 2020, which is a record for me. But that also means I received about 235 letters which is also a record. I completely filled my letters received basket, couldn't stuff another letter in and had to get another for overflow. So far I have two outgoing letters listed in my correspondence log and still working on 2020 letters in my in basket. One of the letters I sent off the last day of 2020 was to distractedmom.

I have not counted, so my vote is only an estimation.

I sent 272 letters according to my saved copies. I probably sent 100+ postcards but I don't keep a very good count of those during the year. The bad thing is I've went 2 months now without sending out a single letter and am struggling to get my writing mojo going in time for February.

Also, with the pandemic, do you feel like you wrote more or less? That's a hard one for me to answer actually. I know that I wrote very little in the latter part of March and April but that was more due to anxiety related to something other than the pandemic. But then I picked up again in June/July. Overall I don't know if the pandemic made any difference to how many letters I wrote though it certainly affected the content as I found I had less and less to write about as I'm not really doing anything!

Your question really made me wonder, so at first, I was really bummed out that I don’t keep written records on this type of stuff. Then I realized I keep photographic records - on Instagram!
So I had a great old time looking back through this last year’s pictures (so much fun stationery! I enjoyed it all over again!) and counting it all up. I’ll be honest. The total *really* surprised me.
I wrote 386 letters this year! About 100 of them were short letters to check in on my grandma and aunt weekly, but that means 286 were written to penpals. Wow! Not bad for only devoting 30-60 minutes a day to playing with my pens and writing letters.
I also sent 325 pieces of “other mail” like postcards, thank you cards, and sticker swaps. Probably 80% or more of these were postcards for postcrossing, I’d guess.
So 711 pieces of mail sent this year!?! I guess I’m doing my part to keep the post office well funded. 😂
Also, I tallied it up, and it looks like I sent 51 Christmas cards this year. But I think that was another thread...?
This was a fun look back at the year. Thanks, Shannon!

I only really counted letters. Out - 439. In - 418.
Christmas cards - 94!

I’m estimating slightly over 50 as I didn’t participate in the February letter writing exchanges. However, I’m pretty certain I didn’t write 100 this year.
I felt as if I wrote more this year, only because I was more aware of when I was writing. Guess that’s what staying at home in a pandemic does for you!

With only 44 letters written in 2020 I wonder if I am still entitled to be a member of the forum 😉 It is below my goal, however I am not unhappy with the figures because I really couldn't do much more and I already feel that the current amount of correspondence makes me neglect other important aspects of my life.

As long as you have at least 1 penfriend, and write (or typewrite) at least one letter a year! I know life can get in the way, and that's fine... good letters/penfriends should still be there.

It's not a competition, I'd say We all have a life, and it can get into the way of writing, as we surely all know

You are absolutely correct, ginny, it’s not a competition. I asked out of curiosity, wondering where I fall on the “letter writing addiction” spectrum. 😊

My total for 2020 came in right around 70. I'm pretty happy with that Honestly, it was a bit more than I expected to find.
