I was doing a bit of browsing and came upon the following. www.travelandleisure.com/travel-tips/mail-postcard-to-yourself-traveling . I usually purchase postcards and bring them home but perhaps sending yourself postcards with your immediate impression of the place and what you were doing might be a fun idea. Have any of you ever sent a postcard to yourself. Or, perhaps in the evening after a busy day write a letter to yourself talking about the events of the day wile they are still fresh in your mind, of course there are always travel journals.

I started doing it about 18 months ago and love it. I love the postcards that have made the journey home even better than pristine examples in a picture album from prior trips. I wish I'd done it years ago when we went on our trips. A couple points to consider if you start doing it. A) You'll never have time to send all the great postcards you pick up on excursions so if it appeals to you fill it out right then and post it. If you find a better one later you'll just have to do the same thing with it. B) Your mail delivery person will question your sanity as will various friends and family members if they find out about your new habit. Live with it as you've got great mementos of your trips now C) It's hard to find time on busy trips to send postcards to friends so your output to them will suffer if you send yourself a card or two per day.

Another thought. If you use older postage stamps to send your mail then you can use some of your favorite stamps when sending yourself postcards to make them even nicer.

Some of the postcards sent to myself from our trip last month. Filling out a postcard on the trip. A collection of postcards from the last year.

This was mentioned somewhere here after I returned from our Canada trip which was sadly too late. I have however made a mental note to start doing this next time we travel as I think it is a brilliant idea!

That is a neat idea; usually I just buy blank ones to save. Gary S, I love that 'Greetings From' stamp you used on yours.

This is where a normal person who can remember things would tell you where he got that particular rubber stamp....but all I got at the moment is the Internet. That's not really helpful I fear. What's worse is I picked it up about a month ago specifically for this past trip. Okay, luckily they put the company name on the rubber stamp as I'd already deleted the emails from my purchase and I couldn't find a bookmark that I'd saved concerning a single rubber stamp The link for that particular stamp from Paper Pastries.

Not to myself. But I like to send fun postcards to my 14 year old son. I send them either from home or when out doing errands on the mainland. The poor kid never gets any mail, and they’re always a surprise. He loves it!

vertolive, you are the best mom! Gary S, do you hold your pen against your pointer, not your middle finger? I LOVE to take photos, so for a few vacations, I would sit down each night and blog about our day's adventures to share with the family back home. I am so glad that I did that because I have forgotten so many things. Here's an example if you're bored... On our last few trips, I decided to be more in the moment and just spent a few minutes jotting notes in a notebook. Now, where is that notebook???

Gary S , do you hold your pen against your pointer, not your middle finger? I've got a weird pencil grip that's driven English teachers crazy for decades. It works for me so I don't worry about it too much.
