How do we feel about making or receiving decorated letters?
I didn't really expect to decorate my letters much initially. Now I enjoy it, but don't always do it. Sometimes I don't have a lot of time, so I prioritize just writing. Usually my decorations involve using drawn initial letters to start off paragraphs (like drop caps).
Over time I'm also appreciating the decorated letters I receive more and more. A few I've received include: really beautiful handwriting/calligraphy, letters in book format (often with washi tape to bind the pages), nice use of washi tape, stickers, or stamps: sometimes these are as borders, other times like illustrations that the text wraps around.
What are some neat things you've seen or done?

I have a pen friend in Germany who does little doodles all about the letter - quite nice although to be honest, sometimes I have no idea what the doodle is, but still, I like it.
I can not draw so I don't even try - even my stick men tend to look like spaghetti that just hit a pan of hot oil!

I have been decorating my letters more - I have a LOT of paper and whatnot that I've accumulated and I'm trying to actually use it. A lot of stickers/washi tape/ephemera I use in my journaling, but that's only so much. So if I'm writing on something other than a stationery set, I've been trying to add stickers or washi tape or using my rubber stamps. I've almost always done envelope decorations but I'm trying to expand a bit. I think it's neat when I receive letters like that, but I also have penpals where the focus is on the writing itself. And that's okay too. Probably the coolest letter I've received was from a penpal who removed a signature from one of her blank notebooks and wrote my letter on that.

I know I can't draw, but do occasionally attempt an illustration. If it can be recognised for what it is supposed to be, then it is a success. Perhaps the problem I have with drawing is patience... I lack it at times. I use stickers and washi tape to decorate but also perhaps to take the plainness away from the paper. I use colourful inks as well.
Art for some can be cathartic, relaxing, mindful. There's quite a few colouring in books for adults appearing the last few years. I've seen coloured-in pages used as envelopes.
So, I am happy to receive the variety of letter styles that snail mail brings.

I have been the recipient of davidv's letters. I have come to look forward to the next, not knowing what I might find. Some pen pals use postage creatively, or beautiful calligraphy. While the content is most important, the little additions make correspondence all the more fun. Thank you all!
I enjoy making envelopes, and try at using a flex nib to add some character to my script. It is great fun personalizing the letters I send off.

Many of my penfriends use washi, stickers, used postal stamps or rubber stamping for decorating their stationery. It's always fun to see people's creativity. Then there are a couple, like penguy, and a german friend who practices calligraphy, whose handwriting is a decoration as such I enjoy decorating my stationery by stamping, drawing and/or painting when I have time, but lately I haven't had much time for that. I also glue on clippings from old magazines or advertisement, and sometimes even pressed flowers. I enjoy the idea of "disposable art", like envelope art. It's free from any expectations for quality

Like you Catida I get very excite by decorated envelopes or just plain calligraphic ones or sometimes its the content which I know will be very newsy. I wont name the people on here who they are but they know who they are because I mention it in my return letters to them. So thank you to all those that fit in that category and thank you to those that just write and fill my letterbox up, I appreciate all and every letter I receive.

I forgot to mention wax seals. They are lovely decorations too! Too bad that they often get some damage from the sorting machines. But the latest one I got (thanks, katiel !), was almost untouched, so it's not hopeless

I like to create and to receive decorated letters, but I am equally happy receiving the undecorated kind. I love being creative and get bored with my stationery easily, and decorating helps with that.

I forgot to use my wax seals this week! Instead, used washi!
