Hi Everyone, I thought I'd share an Instagram page link here. It is for those 30+ who are looking for new pen friends. I have found a few new wonderful pen friends thanks to this site, so I thought I'd share the link/site here too www.instagram.com/penpalsover30/

I'm not that concerned about privacy here (it's a lost cause at this point for me) but I... it's not that I don't know _how_ to use Instagram, but I don't really get how you're supposed to _use_ Instagram. Posts with 50 hashtags? Also seems odd to post a message that is only text by typing text, doing a screengrab or something, then posting the picture of the text. Kinda like Twitter but going around your ... back... to get to your elbow.
Still, yes, thanks for the link. I'm snowed under with InCoWriMo and other pals right now, but I'll favorite or subscribe or join or whatever it's called on Insta. Some of the photos of postboxes people put up are neat.

Maybe Looks like you have to DM that account owner to get posted, so it's not like a FB group. I guess you have to use hashtags for the same effect as a group? I used to scan and post Moleskine journal entries on LiveJournal, back in 2006 or so when that was a thing. And the Moleskines weren't made in China back then, either. I was using Fisher space pen in red and brown mostly, anyway. Then a EF Pilot M90, I think. What I kinda miss is something like forums-in-real-time, or AOL chatrooms. Twitter/IG aren't quite like that (filtering by tag isn't the same as groups/rooms). IRC is, but as far as I can tell only geeks venture there. Usually, I prefer the slow pace of forums, but it would be neat. Discord, I guess, is close, but I've never seen one that's particularly active - like at least 4 people posting per minute. There's no central menu for "here are all the Discords on snail mail or pens". The shoutbox is a similar idea but, again, not really up to the challenge of being as fun as Y2K AOL over 2400bps, in a way. (Yeah, yeah, most of us had 14.4K by then)

I'm on a 34-year-old public access UNIX system, its BBS has a PENS topic. I have five penfriends from that public access UNIX system.

This is a pretty good account, ebbie, and I have met some people via this place. It's easy to contact folks there.

I only use it on occasion, like when one website I use is down for maintenance. Is USENET still a thing? Still, that's more BBS/forum - like. What got me thinking about this was the open voice & text chats on Second Life. You can just... show up. A good percentage of the time, you can have a conversation. It may not be a good one, but at least there's people there willing to let anyone join in. I'm not as social as my sweetheart, who's been getting extra socializing through that, and through an app called "Dialup" that connects to you random other people a few times a day (it is like a phone call, VoIP, identity of other person not revealed).

I do IRC, but only occasionally, when a friend is streaming on tilderadio, or when I am chancing an operating system upgrade and want a volunteer helper on standby in case of errors.
The public unix system has a VoIP call-in program on anonradio There are MUSHs, MOOs, MUDs still.

Haha, radellaf and christyotwisty , I spent my teenage years/ early adulthood in IRC, but you totally lost me with all those other lettercombinations! I must not be nerdy enough. But yeah, I, too, have sometimes missed the live chats, eversince I left Facebook. I guess all the conversations that used to be in those other places are now in FB groups I still haven't really learned to navigate with the hashtags.

There's at least one penpal group on Telegram, too. Not sure about WhatsApp, since I don't use it any more.
Please ignore Telegram. It's all junk.
