I've ordered some of the Franklin Christoph to try out. And I've ordered Clairefontaine Triomphe. Any thoughts about Clairefontaine? Very nice paper is Clairefontaine. Rhodia is also good - both from the same manufacturer but there are slight differences.

I have some good luck with Southworth (by Neenah) Parchment speciality paper (24 lb/90gsm) ivory; I then use a paper cutter to trim to executive/monarch size for letter writing (7.25"x10.5"). I find it to be not the best for sheen/shading but it does have a lot of character and is fairly bleed resistant. I have a sample of writing at my desk that has been up for about 6 months (yes just a short test) and has had no issues. while it isn't cheap, you get 400 sheets per box for a decent price. the clipped off pieces can be used for crafts or kindling! Amazon and staples (Canada) have the paper and Jam monarch envelopes www.castlepress.com/page/monarch-letterhead

Yes, I have tried Southworth and I do like its properties. I’ve still been hunting around, it seems much cheaper in the US. I might just get it anyways though, because I haven’t found a better alternate for less yet. But I do have some paper to use up before the .

davidv I found this link that you might want to check out: Copy paper reviewSome of the papers are no longer available. I have done some reading and have found that the HP Premium 32 paper is well-liked by lots of fountain pen users.

I was a real fan of the Hp32 but don't use it much any more. It's deceptive. It feathers... down. Like, the ink doesn't spread out that much so much as getting sucked down. There is spread but it's uniform and controlled rather than the usual case where line width is proportional to pen-contact time, like on absorbent paper.
It's certainly usable and the weight is neat. A lot more affordable than the heavier (or any) Rhodia. I prefer paper where the ink stays on top a little more, and that doesn't widen my F and EF line widths so much.
The other weird thing about it is some ink colors look different than they do on other paper. Not sure which, but I do most of my swatches on Hp32# and a few end up a little different.
I like Tomoe, but am happiest now with Kakuyo KB (comes in reams, not doled out in 50 or 100 sheet packs). It's kinda similar to the heavier weight of Tomoe. Neither is as magic with sheen as the 52# thin Tomoe. I just don't love the rice paper feel. I like it a lot more than I thought but not ideal for my taste.

The link didn’t seem to work for me InsomniaQueen but actually, I’ve found a paper I like! It’s called sugar sheet! I can only find it at one store here, but it’s a copy paper made from sugar cane. It’s not quite as premium as some papers, but doesn’t feather or bleed, and is between copy and laser paper in terms of cost. In Canada, I can buy it at London Drugs. I’ve noticed these smaller paper brands are different between Canada and the US, which kept me from being able to get many of the options I’d heard about online. I should probably buy a bunch of teams before they stop making it!

I also feel like the Tomoe is too thin and light, but I haven't tried the HP32 because I don't like very heavy paper either.

radellaf Thank you for the Kokuyo recommendation. It arrived today, and I love it. No feathering, light to medium ghosting, no bleeding, not at all scratchy. Very nice. The weight is perfect too, neither very heavy nor flimsy.

Fountain Pen Friendly PaperThat's a winner. Although I don't normally use these kinds of papers and don't plan to start, I like to be educated about paper. His sample packs are a great way to see what's out there and what people are using. I'm going to get one.

Hi We were looking for something yesterday and stumbled upon this site comparing fountain pen friendly paper and naturally, thought that we would share it here. Enjoy! Fountain Pen Friendly PaperThank you for sharing! My favorites are Tomoeriver 68gsm (even after last year’s change) Graphilo, and Midori MD. I have Life L writing paper which is scored the highest in this chart, but I don’t use it often. I guess it’s personal taste after all.
