I sent a bunch of letters back in June and it looks like nobody got them yet. I suppose they're lost It always happens during the summer holidays but I'm worried that people will think I stopped writing for no reason. So, please, if you haven't got a letter from me, let me know. It probably got lost and I will write again!

I remember I had a massive Postcrossing address request session and posted most of these in the same post box. They expired. I wonder if something happened to the bag the postman would have put them in.

I think I've lost a few letters I've sent out recently too. I've been sending new letters to a few people I haven't heard from in a few months.

I think I've lost a few letters I've sent out recently too. I've been sending new letters to a few people I haven't heard from in a few months. That's a good idea! I will do the same. I have very regular pen pals and it's weird that they didn't write in 3 or 4 months... the only reason I can think of is that they never got the last letter from me.

I have had known problems with the postal services of India, Italy & Croatia, in descending order. If I get no answer from other places, I usually assume the correspondent has decided to let it slide. Except to individual countries with unreliable postal services loss of mail is much rarer than often supposed. I have bought and sold hundreds of items by post, dozens bought by untracked, uninsured mail without a single item lost or damaged, and these were packets that obviously contained things that might be worth something, unlike an average letter. Lots of people mean to reply and never get round to it and rest mainly find it easier than signing off; I've had a good number, usually fairly early in an exchange. Kind regards, Timothy

In my case, letters from or to the USA and the Netherlands have also got lost - countries the postal service of which I'd consider as rather reliable.
Anyway, I usually contact my regular penpals by e-mail, if I haven't heard from them for an unusually long time.
Also, I would report the lost letters to your postal service, if you still remember the postbox you used. There might be issues with postboxes in certain places or with the staff and the postal service would never know, if you don't report it.

The Netherlands here! Not many, but some letters never found their destinations.
Italy, India and Russia have showed to be the most unreliable, to the extent that I switched to e-correspondence with a good Italian friend.

I've been dismayed with India's postal vicissitudes, and Mexico's glacial service (I don't refer to temperature). If it's a long-time pen-pal then after a reasonable wait I'll send a "check-up card". However, I suspect that with some people, "their eyes are bigger than their stomach" when it comes to an appetite for sustained letter writing, and it's not the fault of the postal service.

I have occasionally been unorganized and missed writing a letter or two. Once I emailed and asked if I had written or not, it had been a good while. I was told no letter from me, I so appreciated that honesty. Also I have had no letters for a good while from some. I then write & ask if they are ok or just busy, which is fine. I suggest not to give up right away if you enjoy writing with someone.

Some people will announce on Facebook/elsewhere when they send a letter and to whom. I sometimes show my incoming and outgoing mail over on Instagram though I try to hide any writing and cover addresses. Sometimes then, it is a relief if others do the same and you see your letters to them have arrived safely.

For what it's worth if it's one of mine you thought might be lost - it's not! In addition to 10 gazillion other things that's fine crazy, my wife unintentionally squirreled my box of correspondence in the attic.

Unfortunately, after contacting my other pen pals they confirmed what I was afraid of: none of them got my letters. So I guess yours was the lucky one and it reached its destiny.

To top it off, from when I was there, Italy has two postal systems? I may be wrong though. When I was on vacation there I remembered having compilations before and took my postcards to mail later.

Definitely PM me if you have written me a letter and haven't gotten a reply within a month: I write back to everyone.
