What's the difference between the small letter/postcard and Aerogramme?

What's the difference between the small letter/postcard and Aerogramme? Hmmm - the Aerogramme appears to be cheaper and can weigh more !

An Aerogramme is a single sheet of paper which is folded and sealed to become the envelope, which is then sent via airmail. Here is an example of an older aerogramme.

Decided to do a little more research on Aerogrammes.... You can still purchase the pre-paid Aerogrammes at Australia Post for $2.30 each. Australia Post's definition is I picked up a couple, looks like a great idea to keep in my folio, in case I want to pen a quick letter without worrying about stamps, etc.

Andy, thanks! The format makes me think of the V-Mail from WWII sent to solders overseas. Single sheet of paper.

From the 4th of January there will be some changes made by Australia post.
This includes the BPR (Basic Post Rate) being increased to $1.00 for a small letter, and the introduction of a "priority" service.
Priority letters are delivered within 1-4 business days, depending on the destination. To send a letter priority, include a priority sticker (50c) in addition to your stamp.
Regular service letters will be take up to 2 days longer than the priority service.

So AustPo have doubled the cost of a domestic letter to $1.50 (for the existing service) or you can use the slower service for 50cents less. Hardly a great way to encourage more letter traffic by the banker in charge. I think most of the domestic letters these days are from charities soliciting donations.
