I recently discovered Itoya Oasis notebooks with very nice paper that has major and minor lines. Because I can’t find just the paper, I buy the notebooks and use a guillotine to extract the pages. Their lines, so far, help me more than dot grid, grid, whiteline, regular lined, Clairfontaine lined, or blank. But it still just seems that the biggest “benefit” to any system I use is to show me just how undisciplined my writing is. I don't have any struggles reading it at all anymore.

Cursive italic is a nib I am keen to try, I've seen samples of writing and they look so lovely and crisp! Try a Manuscript calligraphy pen. At the Range they are around £3 for a pen with 3 nibs and ink cartridges. I use loads of them

I love a creamy white blank paper but my main thing is the pen. I recently discovered the cursive italic nib and I’m hooked. Cursive italic is a nib I am keen to try, I've seen samples of writing and they look so lovely and crisp! I’ve purchased three modified Jinhaos from eBay seller Tolbooks and have been completely satisfied. For under twenty dollars there’s no more affordable way to enter the world of custom nibs. P.M. me if you’d like a writing sample.

Same here. It seems ridiculous that my best writer is a customized Jinhao for under $20 when I would scarcely admit what I’ve spent over the years on my now neglected pens. Well, ahem, yes, I do feel a little "guilty" using pens that cost $100AUD or less when I ahve beautiful pens that cost a LOT more than that just sitting waiting to be given to my grandchildren as heirlooms. But, like a lot of things, I do it anyway I’m glad to not be alone in guilt.

I like variety. Somedays I like the simplicity of Tomoe River, other days I like to use some cute LaPapierre paper. Same for my pens. Some days I am in the mood for a juicy broad nib; other days I want a crisp, fine point.

I just now ordered Cream Tomoe River FP Loose Sheet, 8.27 x 11.7". It was only CDN$18.20 on Amazon.ca - quite a bit cheaper than the cotton/linen paper that I like. I also have a penchant of thinner papers, so I'm looking forward to the 52gsm of the Tamoe FP. Yes it's wood, but the acid free specification convinced me to make an exception.

My writing looks worse the broader I go. I'm starting to see how you can see the shading better with some inks in a broader nib but a Western fine is as broad as I can go, if I go medium it looks like my pen's leaking! My penmanship is a little bit different with each pen, and it’s not just the nib. The size of the pen affects my writing as well.

I haven't even mastered the basics of Copperplate and I'm getting distracted by Italic and Fraktur! I find calligraphy styles very enticing too. I'm drifting towards an uncial rabbit hole right now. I've never tried the pointed pen styles though, just the broad edged ones.

I just found an ink blog that looks rather fun: www.mountainofink.com. A couple years ago I had sort of a strange thing happen. I had purchased some Private Reserve Gray Flannel. When I went to fill a pen with it I found it was blueish not gray. I called the store and they sent me the correct color and told me I could keep the off color ink. I decided to use the blueish color and found that I really loved the color. I contacted the store to see if they had any more of the not gray Gray Flannel, they had returned the batch to the company. I contacted the company and it was a bad batch of dye and they didn't have any more of it. Now every time I look for inks I look for a color like the blueish color it was sort of a soft blue with just a blush of violet.

I'm writing a letter to distractedmom right now and using a color that reminds me a little of the color I was looking for, but not quite it. It is J. Herbin's Gris Nuage. I wish it were a stronger color. Not sure I like J. Herbin color, somehow they seem to be weak and watery. I really liked the gray flannel as well.
